Cat hissing - please help!
We took Jasmine to the vet yesterday, came home to find Disney hissing at her.
They're older cats (8 and 9), could Disney not "know" Jasmine, and just thrown off by the smell of the vet?
I've been scolding her with the water bottle, but it's not working. Please help - what can I do? I hate living in such a hostile envirnment.

Re: Cat hissing - please help!
Hey Jenn- the same thing happened to my cats. Lydia had to stay longer than Eddie at the vet for testing, and when she came home, Eddie was hissing and acting like he didn't even know her.
The vet told me it is pretty common for that to happen with cats are suddenly separated when they aren't used to it.
I kept Lydia in our bedroom for a few days and the hostility died down. They'd have supervised visits and eventually the hissing stopped. He was cranky about the vet smell. I also wiped Lydia down with wet towels to help get that smell off faster. Extra brushing, too.
I know how scary it can be- but it will be ok! Just keep a close eye on them.

Re: Cat hissing - please help!
ETA- it took 3-4 days before I left them alone together while we were at work.

Re: Cat hissing - please help!
We've moved a few times over the last few months and every time we get to a new place, my older cat hisses at the younger cat, who he normally adores. The new scents throw him off and he just hisses as a reaction. I'm guessing it could be a reaction to any smells left over by the vet. I wouldn't scold the cat for hissing, but try to reassure him/her as much as possible. Eventually, things should get back to normal!
