Re: Creamed onions?

It's so funny you posted this, I was going to ask the same question! I haven't made them yet, but I'm definitely going to experiment this week so I can make them Thursday. Here are some I found:

INGREDIENTS
6 large onions, sliced (
1 cup butter
2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
2 cups milk
DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, saute onions in butter until tender and golden brown, about 25 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon. Add flour, salt and pepper to skillet; stir until smooth. Gradually stir in milk until blended.
Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat to medium. Return onions to the pan; heat through.
I assume you could use pearl onions in place of the large sliced ones.

INGREDIENTS
4 cups pearl onions
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 1/2 cups crushed buttery round crackers
1 1/3 cups heavy cream
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place onions in a 2 quart casserole dish and season with salt and pepper. Pour melted butter over onions and sprinkle crushed crackers on top. Pour cream over crackers.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes.

Re: Creamed onions?

Ok - stupid question - where would I find pearl onions? Would they be near the regular onions in the produce section? I have seen thenm in jars - think it would make a difference???

Not a stupid question at all. I think I am just going to use bagged frozen pearl onions. You could probably use the ones in the jar if you drain it first. Otherwise, yes you can find them by the regular onions, but I think they are a pain to prepare, hence why I am using frozenChat Icon

Buy them frozen in a bag.

Cook according to directions.

I make my white sauce with Argo cornstarch. There is a recipe for the white sauce right on the box.

Very easy!!
