Re: Pre-approved mortgage
We did this with HSBC bank. We had to bring in 2 paychecks from the last month and a copy of our W-2 from our taxes last year. Then we answered questions re: assets, loans, background, etc, and we were done in about an hour and a half, we had our mortgage, was mailed to us a few days later to sign, and then it lasted 90 days (after that date, you have to provide copies of paychecks again to reinlist the mortgage) and you have another 90 days.
If you would like our guy's name, feel free to FM me. Scott Finger has been wonderful with us, and answers all our questions for us, and meets us at our apt. when we have more than 1-2 questions re: mortgages, closing costs, etc.
ETA: As soon as we signed, we could start looking and we did. The mortgage gets green lighted when you get an accepted bid on a home.

Thanks so much, that doesn't sound bad. HSBC is our bank so that is who we would be going through also, I think. But we live in Brooklyn right now, so not sure what branch we will go to to do this. Thanks for the info!
Every branch has a mortgage person to help you. Scott works from 3-4 different branches. I could give you his business information and he could refer you to someone in your area.
We used HSBC too, b/c all of our banking is with them, so we feel most comfortable with them.

Re: Pre-approved mortgage
we will be heading into WAMU in the beginning of the year to get pre-approved then we've narrowed our search down to a certain area and its time to start getting serious.

We were going to use WAMU, but HSBC gave us a great rate and deal.

ok, because we have a CD, Savings & Checking with them and I was told by two other girls they were helpful. I'll also check out HSBC but I don't want my credit being pulled to many times.

Kerry, if its for a mortgage its ok - your credit can be pulled as many times I think in a 30 day period, and it won't count against you.
