Re: If you or your DH is in finance/banking/research etc. question for you!
DH is in research. He has a CFA, no MBA and 9.5 years experience, not counting internships in college.

DH is in banking, he has no MBA and less than 10 years experience and he makes no where near any of your categories.

When FH worked in finance, he made under $100K, but that was right our of college and only with a little experience. Then as a consultant he made between 100 and 150, but it was a very short term job.

Re: If you or your DH is in finance/banking/research etc. question for you!
depending on age MBA really makes a difference. not only does MBA make a difference, the school which it is from plays a big role. DH's "mentor" makes a good living without an MBA, but he's older and not the norm. DH currently works with someone w/out an undergraduate degree, but has worked his way up to where he is over 10 years. he's pursuing his degree now, but really is not in any position to make a killing as far as $$$ is concerned.
is this a base salary poll or is bonus included? lots of times depending on the market and level, bonuses can be an extra large percentage of salary. this varies from company to company.
DH gets paid very little based on the hours he works. he is basically getting paid to work two jobs for the price of one. he has his MBA and loads of experience, however he does not make the 300+ his colleagues do...

There is or was a lot of money to be made in the financial field. DH has over 15 years experience and does not have his Masters but is self employed. Some of his wholesale reps with basic education make 6 figures. I am def. in the wrong field

My friend's husband was a commodities trader with the circumstances you mentioned and made about 85K.

I answered for myself, as i have less than 10yrs experience, no MBA, and I work in finance. I hope that's okay.
Can I ask what your husband does? or is that too specific/personal?

also answered for myself, no MBA . I think the industry is not as lucrative as it used to be. That's what I hear from older employees

It totally depends...
Is the person a revenue generator? Ex salesperson, trader
Do they bring in customers, make money for the firm, are part of operations or management. It depends on a ton of variables...
Experience, education, and other factors should be taken into consideration.

I agree. Just working in finance or banking doesn't make for a high salary; it really depends on what the person is doing. Front office vs. back office, support role vs. money maker, etc.

Re: If you or your DH is in finance/banking/research etc. question for you!
The people that report to my boss make big money. Most of them don't have an MBA. Most of them do have a BS though. They are IT professionals. There is not one officer making under $125K. that includes the junior officers (VP)
Most of the higher officers base ranges from $175-$250. That's base. Their bonuses can be substantial.
The ones on my bosses level with about 20+ years of experience are probably making $300-350 base.
There is money to be made.

Well - I actually tend to disagree with this. I am an accountant and I know that i make more than accountants in other industries that have the same amount of experience that I do. I also find that Admin, IT & Human Resources are generally paid better than they would be than if they work in other industries. I used to work for a major investment bank and I worked closely with HR so I knew compensation for many, many different functions within the organization.
Now I work for a smaller firm and i find that I make even more than I would have had I stayed at the major investment bank.

I agree with this. That's why for what I do, banking is the best option for me.. (IT, Admin)

DH is in accounting. He works at a hedge fund, his base b/4 bonus is in the 150 - 200K range. This is his first year there so I don't know what the bonus will be like but I have heard they are substantial.

Wait...I don't think i did? I wrote "you or your dh" in the post and your or your dh's in the poll. I would never assume that and I'm sorry if I implied it in any way!
Thanks ladies for all of your responses - they are greatly appreciated (and informative)
