you can rent a professional steam cleaner.. even eckerd rents them out pretty cheap

it comes with instructions how to use it!

i would definately try the steam cleaning, but after it dries... spray it heavily with Lysol spray... it will kill the germs and bacteria that got deeper into the fabric better. Fabreeze has the anti bacterial spray, but i think Lysol is a stronger prodcut in that sense.

I used Borax on our couch after Sandy (our dog) decided she had to pee on it. I let it stay on it all night. It seemed to work.

woolite makes a pet stain and odor remover that i am convinced can get out any stink on earth - just look for it they sell it in walmart - white bottle yellow and blue label.
it got out stuff i am not even going to discuss in a forum - but it is quite amazing.
