Re: How often are you asked to contribute toward a gift for your company's owner (or whoever runs the co?)
since i work for a large company, i've never been asked to contribute to the owner/president. however, in our dept an envelope is always going around for a bridal shower/baby shower you name it

we never contribute to a group gift for anyone, especially the heads of the company. We exchange between each other and I do work for the CEO so I exchange with him.

2. The company's anniversary. EVERY YEAR.
I find this one to be particularly stupid.
I would pretty peeved too - a house warming gift??? COME ON. I'm sure it was just some kiss-azz's idea anyway and he probably doesn't expect anything.
We used to have something called the "Sunshine Fund" (where's gagging icon when you need it?) where you had to give 3 bucks every paycheck. It turned out that we were always giving money but never getting invited to the parties (showers, b-days, etc). So we dropped out of it. Now we only give 2 a year - once for the boss's b-day and once for the boss's christmas gift. I still object to the b-day one because WE don't get gifts from HER for OUR b-days.

That's obnoxious, Sue!!! I would be mad too. In another dept at my company, they are ALWAYS collecting money for something- baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays etc. One of the girls was complaining about it- how the heck do you say no without looking like a miserly azz? $10 for each celebration adds up.

Don't these people have FRIENDS who do this for them? I don't mind the occasional bridal or baby shower, but at some places this does get out of hand. I am in a small office, so luckily we just do the cake thing for b-days.

that $h!t gets annoying DH contributes money allthe time for co-wrokers b-days and his bosses X-mas gift. It gets tiring...but contributing for everything your boss does or accomplishes is B.S!!

At the beginning of the school year, every teacher puts in 35 dollars, and that covers EVERYTHING for the entire school year. There's two older women whom buy the gifts for EVERYONE. Hangnail, toe surgery, pregnancy, weddings, deaths, etc. It's all included!

They used to do that at a school I worked at until a few of us boycotted
