Re: First Time Home Buyer Question

Did you doa Pre Qual yet? That would be your first step. Get an idea of what you can afford...

Then start looking on mlsli.com and other websites like it.....Also look on here - because I am always posting houses. If you want, you can fm me and let me know what you are looking for and I will try to find you something. I Have found houses for a few people on LIF.

Start hitting the open houses on the weekends. That is where you will learn a lot. Danielle and I looked at over 40 houses and we asked a lot of questions at open houses.....you will learn what to look for after you see 5 or 6 houses....

Check newsday......do a search of Schools and check out the twons school districts to see if they are good - that is if you plan to have children while living in the house

IMO the number you get from the pre-qual isn't necessarily a price range that you can afford. Or should i say could afford if you worked 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
They give you this outrageous number that you can spend up to.
IMO never go buy that number.
You should know your own incomes and what you can afford monthly
but just remember to factor in tax, interest rates and extras

Re: First Time Home Buyer Question

We actually used a relaty that my dad used for a little while. Be careful though because our realtor was working in the best interest of the seller, not us. I looked at houses on every website and then called to see them. I looked at NY Times, Newsday (great), Remax, Century21
