Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I voted for each time someone moves. I don't think it should matter if it's a house or not - it's still a new home.

I agree with this. Unless they're moving around every couple of months.

I agree completely... It doesn't have to be anything big... but to me, a housewarming gift is like giving the new home some good qi

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I think it's when they move to their new home, whatever the structure happens to be. If they are renting a house, does it count? If they bought an apartment, does that count? Now you have to ask for legal documentation on whether they bought/rent/borrowed their home before you bring them something to celebrate their new settings?

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I had a friend of mine that moved from one apt to another. I bought him a gift when he moved into the first one and didn't buy one the second time. It was only a year later.

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I think housewarming gifts are always completely unnecessary (and yes, I'm speaking as someone who just bought a house). We've become such a gift-oriented society. I don't think your friends should ever expect such a gift, especially not for moving apartments.
If YOU really WANT to give them something, then I'd go with something small, like a bottle of wine or champagne.

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I voted every time they move..... I just think it's a nice way to show your excitement for them....It doesn't need to be something extravagant.....maybe a candle, bottle of wine, of GC to BBB...

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
If you recently gave them a housewarming, I would say to just bring a bottle of wine when you go to their new place, another "gift" isn't neccesary. We just gave our friends Tiffany candlesticks because they just moved in together. If they decided to move to a new place when their lease was up I wouldn't buy another gift.

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
Usually I will bring something as a token gift especially if they just moved. I always send a card though when they first move....I think it is a nice gesture to just let them know.

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
If it was one of my friends that got new apts. in the city every year -- no.
But otherwise, I'd bring a gift if they were having their first party in the new place.
And it may be a bottle of wine or something... But then again, I usually bring something anytime I go anywhere.

I agree with this. A housewarming gift can be anything from a fresh baked pie or an expensive wine cooler.
I usually bring something everytime I visit someones house- whether it is an apartment, a house or a barn.

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I think it's good to bring something when people move into a new place. It could be something not so lavish or expensive like a nice plant, wine, or a decorative item such as a picture frame or a vase.

Re: When to bring a housewarming gift? - poll
I would vote other. IMHO it depends on the relationship b/w you and the friends. I do not think a housewarming gift per se is a necessity. I however was raised never to go to someone's home for dinner without bringing something, whether it is flowers or a bottle of wine.

We always bring a bottle of wine or favorite liquor.
this is what we usually do. Unless the family doesn't drink - then a plant.
It doesn't have to be a big gift - like the saying goes....it's the thought that counts
