edited because I messed up the poll. It's the same thing in the other post.

So my son is 3 1/2 months old. I exclusively pump and he is only fed breastmilk. He had serious latching problems from day one, and really never latched, so I just kept up with the pumping.

I tried with the breastfeeding for the first 2 months, and after that just figured I will pump, it's not in this kid. He doesn't want the boob.

Well last night, he was laying in my lap, playing with his binky, sucking on his fingres, when he turned his head and started sucking on my shirt right where my nipple is.

So we gave it a try, and he actually breastfed.

Now for the question.

My husband thinks this is weird. He thinks he's "too old" and not a baby anymore. He doesn't think I should start now, and that we should continue the way we were.

WWYD: Would you start breastfeeding at 3 1/2 months old?

Oh heck yes - I would start BFing now! Think of all the energy you will save not having to pump. And 3.5 months is not at all too late to start, I think that is absolutely amazing Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: WWYD: Take my breastfeeding poll whether you breastfed or not

Um, if it's something you want to do, then go for it!

DD is almost 4 months and I'm BFing!

I BF'd DD#1 til she was 16 months.

There is NOTHING wrong with starting at this age! Chat Icon

Re: WWYD: Take my breastfeeding poll whether you breastfed or not

He is not too old at all. I had the same problem with latch issues, and I battled the first 3 months with getting him to latch and nipple shields, and it didn't work, so I just started exclusively pumping. I made it to one year with the pumping, but it was very hard, and at times, a major PITA. I would have given anything for DS to latch so I wouldn't have to pump. I say if he latches, go for it. Not a baby anymore? Chat Icon

He is only 3 1/2 mos old, not 3 years old. I don't think it is weird at all. I actually think that's an odd comment from your DH. If he's not a baby, what is he?

I would absolutely start BF'ing. There are many moms out there with stories about how their DC did not latch until 8 weeks or after.

I think it is wonderful!Chat Icon

He knows he's still a baby, but he's starting to feel like he's his own person now, because he smiles and responds to us now.

Re: .

Why would he think DS is too old? Would he have a problem with it if DS had been nursing from the beginning? IMO, since you're the one who feeds him, it's your decision what to do. I'd much rather BF than pump. I can't even imagine how hard it is to exclusively pump. I think BFing is much easier especially in the middle of the night.

Honestly I love listening to him sometimes. Just the way he thinks cracks me up!!!! DS is not even mobile yet and one of his reasons for not doing it now, is he will come over to me and lift my shirt for food. He's never been around babies, so he doesn't quite get how far it is away.

Re: .

This made me laugh. If your DS is too old, then my almost 1 year should probably be collecting social security real soon. Go ahead let him nurse. It will be so much easier than you pumping all the time.
