Re: What Can You Expect at your Level II Sono?
They take a bunch of measurements of everything- the kidneys, heart, head, legs, etc... No blood work is done. I was in there for a little over an hour today, but that's because the baby wasn't fully cooperating. He was basically folded in half with his legs and feet up over his head. Flexible little thing!!

I love the level 2 because they spend so much time you really get to see every little part of the baby

Re: What Can You Expect at your Level II Sono?
We were there probably about 45 minutes for our Level 2 .. The baby was VERY cooperative in the beginning, and the technician was really really good, so she got all the measurements she needed right away and then we got to play around a bit, looking at the baby from diff. angles, etc..
Towards the end, was getting shy so when we wanted to get some good pictures, he was being kind of a bad boy!!
But as everyone else said - aside of finding out the sex if you choose to, the Level 2 is done primarily to make sure all the organs are developed and they also check for any markers (on the brain/spine, etc) that might be indicative of any problem that would perhaps need further evaluation..
Its totally amazing to see every organ and all their little 'parts' in detail and up close!!

I had my ultrasound and everything came back normal plus my blood results were good including the blood glucose test that I had (1 hour)..... Even though everything came out fine with the ultrasound..when they do the Level II sono, can they still find things that can be wrong with the baby like defects..Down syndrome etc?
yes- having everything come back normal on the ultrasound still doesn't mean that everything is 100% OK... which is sort of annoying. I forgot exact #s but there is still a small chance of Down, Trisomy 18, etc.

Re: What Can You Expect at your Level II Sono?
The only thing I can add is that all these sono's and blood tests are only "screenings" for different chromosonal and other abnormalities... the NT sono at 12 weeks and the blood tests -- and the Level II sono plus AFP blood test -- these can pick up SOME things, but not everything, unfortunately. The only "sure" way to know is to have an amnio, which is something that not everyone chooses to have done (myself, I opted not to have an amnio based on the results of my screenings )
However based on the results you get back from these sonos and such, the doctors can give you a fairly accurate probability of whether or not something might need to be evaluated further or if there is a potential problem.
However none of these screenings are 100% foolproof- so please keep in mind there are a lot of cases of false positives that actually turn out ok !!

I still have some peace of mind because at my last appointment my Dr. said everything was going great and as planned. I got the results back for blood tests and ultrasound. I know about those tests not being 100% foolproof but I thought that once you have the ultrasound and it comes back normal that it pretty much sums it up. But I guess not. I can't wait for my level II to see all the baby organs in detail and see him or her again. And then to find out the sex of the baby....Awesome !!!
ETA>>And I've heard about all the false positive with the amnios.....Not only if you go through with this you have to endure the fact that it can cause miscarriages but also to think of the news that it might bring..it's pretty scary...I still have a few more weeks for my level II...can't wait....

I loved this as well. We were in the office for 3 hours , but the level II itself took an hour. At first, the baby was being cooperative, but when it got to the point of finding out the sex, she crossed her legs. The technician had to go back later on to look again. I was upset, because I thought we weren't going to get to find out what we were having.
