Re: Would you be Mad?
I would be annoyed that I wasn't told sooner. Some schools do have strict rules about candy...
I know this wasn't the issue but in particular candy with peanuts...

Re: Would you be Mad?
I asked my neighbor and she said that it's definitely not a peanut free school so it's not that.
This is my first year at the school but I'm finding that my dd keeps coming home w/somewhat annoying comments from the teacher.
THe other day, I put a little too much glue on her homework and the paper stook....total accident.
She said to my dd please don't put so much glue. I knew as soon as I did it. It's an accident.
So I'm not sure if I'm just po'd the messages are coming through my dd and not directly through me. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive.

Re: Would you be Mad?
As a teacher, I think you're overreacting and taking things too personally.
A general "no candy" rule makes sense and is simple to follow.
As for the glue, it is the teacher's JOB to tell your daughter about the glue! Some kids don't realize - how does the teacher know that you were the one to do the glue, and not your child? It's a lesson learned. Really not a big deal.

Re: Would you be Mad?
I am good at following directions and don't take offense, but I just thought that it would make sense for the teacher to email me or write me a note to tell me. Fortunately, my dd is good at relaying messages but what if she didn't and I continued to send in stuff not realizing.
I appreciate hearing from the teachers perspective since you're hands on and know where the teachers coming from so thank for your advice!! I'd rather ask here to save embarrassing myself by writing a note to the teacher.

Re: Would you be Mad?
I think sending the note/email makes it a lot bigger deal than it is! I'll tell a kid "we don't have candy for snack" (I have no idea what they bring in for lunch!), and that's the end of it. If it persisted over and over and the child didn't relay the message to the parents, THEN I'd contact the parent. But the reality is, it's not a big deal, and clearly your DD is capable of relaying the message.
BTW - how old is your DD??

Re: Would you be Mad?
No, I wouldn't be angry. SD's school has requested that we don't send in candy or sweets and that when we bring food for birthdays to please bring something at least semi-healthy....100 cal cookies or cupcakes or something.
I honestly think its kinda great that they are so pro healthy eating.

Re: Would you be Mad?
She's in 1st grade. But it's a new school and I wasn't aware of the no candy rule so I'm glad it was brought to my attention. I guess I'm just being sensitive.

Re: Would you be Mad?
DD is in nursery school and they have a "no candy for snack" rule. I believe it's fairly common.

Re: Would you be Mad?
Nah, i wouldnt be mad, infact in my kids school, we are only allowed to send in healthy snacks. Last year i remember a teacher came out and told a parent "not to send in chocolate chip cookies anymore for snack". She told the parent, only healthy snacks are allowed. That way everyone is eating something good for them, and theres less of a risk of kids trading snacks. I think its a fair rule.

Re: Would you be Mad?
I agree it's common, keep the candy/chips/cookies for home and send in healthy snacks. It's expected these days that kids bring in healthy stuff to school.
The reason the teacher did not contact you is probably because 1) your DD has to learn herself what to do/not do and communicate it back to you possibly and 2) she cannot send parents notes home for every "little" thing like this.

Re: Would you be Mad?
I would not be mad at all. DH (Duh) sent dd in with a reeses peanut butter cup this week when the rules are no peanut butter...LOL Ummmmm helllooooo??? LOL I think if the school does not want candy bars given during lunch, dont give it and let her have it at home.

Re: Would you be Mad?
Speaking from a teacher's POV, she probably didn't send a note because it's such a small thing. Our note writing/emailing time is full to the max handling the BIG things.
And no, I wouldn't be mad. Most schools are instituting a wellness policy. I put a Hershey's Kiss in my kids' snack every day, but if they told me to stop I would without a thought. Kids in my class are not permitted chocolate or candy at snack time, but CAN have it in the school cafeteria.

Re: Would you be Mad?
My son must bring a healthy morning snack or it will be taken away. I am happy about the rule.
