Re: New here, and looking for support
DS has improved tremendously since starting SP and OT last January. We went from not understanding 25-50% of what he was saying and him not following simple commands, to full conversations.
We still have to get him to focus, but the improvements have been huge (he started at 3.5)

Re: New here, and looking for support
Welcome! You will see improvements, once therapy begins. My son had speech with EI at 21 months, and he picked up so much so quickly. Overall, he liked the sessions too, they involve a lot of play.
I am sorry your family is not being supportive. Maybe share some information with them? It's hard enough not to blame yourself at times, it doesn't help when others join in. I am sure you did everything you could, some children need more assistance.
Try to focus on getting DC what he needs, and ignore them for now.

Re: New here, and looking for support
You will be amazed at the progress you will see in 3 months. I applaud you getting him started as early as you did and were approved. I had my son evaluated around 2yrs 3months he's done about 4 months of therapy and is progressing. I only wish I got him into therapy sooner like you did.

Re: New here, and looking for support
Not sure what to say about the relatives, except, I probably wouldn't discuss all that much with them. Placing blame on the parents is completely useless. If they have suggestions that make sense, terrific, but why belittle someone in the process?
Of course he will improve !!! So much of development is maturity, and being exposed to structured environments that ellicit learning.
I also applaud you for getting help !
