Re: Professional Certification & 175 Hrs. of Professional Development
Posted by RoadRunner
For those of you with a Professional Certificate, what did you have to show to prove your 175 hours of professional development? A list, a portfolio, certificates of course work? I am not sure how complicated to get. I currently have a list of hours and classes/conferences. I was also on paid maternity leave for 2 of the 5 years.
ETA: Can I also include faculty meetings, department meetings and superintendent conference days? I am a public high school teacher on Long Island if that helps. Not sure if it's different than NYC.
Help!
Do you currently have your professional certification or are you going from initial to professional right now?
If you currently have your professional and it has been 5 years already then you have to show your 175 hours and technically is it the school districts responsibility. They are the ones who are required to send something to the state that you have done 175 hours of professional development. My district keeps track of everything on My Learning Plan. So I would be in contact with HR at your school and you can also log onto your TEACH account and see if the district has sent anything to them.
If you are just now applying for professional from initial you don't need the hours yet.
