Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
We have a school friends party tomorrow for the same time and all the moms at pick up were complaining that it hadn't been canceled yet and hoping the mom would send out a text postponing it.
Personally since the party is local I don't mind going and plan on showing up if they don't cancel but you do what you think is best for your situation.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
I dont think people are going to show, or will want to show... they have to dig out their cars and drive even a few blocks, dangerously... i would reschedule if possible

Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
I would cancel/postpone. No matter how much we get, it's suppose to snow all day on Saturday and i think you will have alot of no shows.

Agree, it sucks big time. We had to cancel our open house because we doubt anybody would show up. I love snow but not this weekend

My ds's first birthday party was supposed to be this Saturday and we rescheduled and not really because of the snow, more over the fear that no one would show up. We figured why waste time and money when half the party might not show up. So our party was rescheduled. It sucks. It's his first birthday too!

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
I hosted a party 2 yrs ago when it was snowing. I decided not to cancel and the memories from that special occasion are awful. It snowed a ton, the venue owners and employees weren't pleasant, all anyone would talk about was the weather. I spent so much on that party and I hate even thinking about it now. I'm sorry your faced with that decision but if it was me, I would postpone.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
Cancel, lets say EVEN if people are willing to travel and go out in it, thats the height of the storm, there is a good chance the roads aren't even all cleared yet so they couldn't go even if they wanted too.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
I postponed my twins party for sat. Not everyone was local. The party place has been great (saf t swim) and even held a second date for me until I made the decision for sure. Turns out everyone that rsvpd can still come to the new date. My only issue is my twins think their party is now a sledding party on sat! they don't get it was totally cancelled. They think their friends are coming over to play in the snow
Hope it all works out with you party!

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
DD also had her party scheduled for this Sat. I ended up cancelling it but most of the people coming lived 1+hrs away. If they all lived in the neighborhood, I probably would have had it.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
I would cancel it, the snow is suppose to start early Saturday morning and be heavy most of the day. I wouldn't be attending a birthday party with a predicted snowfall of 10"+ across the island. Better safe than sorry, I'd postpone it.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
I would normally say wait until the day of to see how it actually is, but I don't know...I think this snowstorm is going to be the real deal.
I think cancelling it is probably best--I'm sorry.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
Sadly, I think you def have to cancel and reschedule.
Chances are people aren't going to want to risk driving in the snow with children just for a bday party. I wouldnt.

Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
my nephew's party is tomorrow and my sil is refusing to cancel. The place is at least 30 minutes away from everyone. It sucks bc I think she is making a mistake and will end up just dissappointing her son when no one shows up. I learned the hard way this year that your childs birthday party is never as important to everyone else as it is to you. Meaning - just bc you will drive in the snow to get to your kids party doesnt mean everyone else will.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
Cancel. I am not leaving my house tomorrow and driving in the snow and I bet many other people feel the same. I won't drive in that to get to work, no way I'm doing it for a birthday party.

Re: Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
It sucks but I would reschedule. It seems like there is so much uncertainty with this storm- at least where I live (north of the city) so I imagine people will want to err on the side of caution.

I agree with everyone. I'd cancel. I know if I was invited to a party tomorrow - I wouldn't go. Sorry, I know it sucks but...you can't control Mother Nature.

Saturday birthday party - to cancel or not?
we are supposed to go to a birthday party for a classmate of my DD. Its a 3pm, the height of the storm. I haven't heard from the mom yet. And I feel bad emailing and asking about it. i'm sure they are upset about it. But I think its safe to assume its cancelled. long island has a blizzard warning out. I will not drive and I don't think anyone else should be on the road.

I feel bad for your nephew.. his mother is being selfish if you ask me. She's putting herself and her family in danger by even thinking that they should be out on the road tomorrow. There are going to be blizzard conditions and anyone who even thinks about going out (unless you're emergency personnel) is just foolish. It has nothing to do with anyone not thinking his bday is important.. it has more to do with safety!
