Re: Non small cell lung cancer
MIL was diagnosed at 79 with stage 4, she went thru extensive chemo but no surgery. She wasn't expected to live 3 months after her diagnosis - doctors never told her that - but she lived for almost 5 years.
Remember with cancers, EVERYONE is different. What works for one may not work for another and vice-versa.
Wishing the best for your dad and your family.

Non small cell lung cancer
Cancer that has spread to distant organs is stage 4. Surgery is usually not an option for stage 4 cancer so he will likely receive chemo.
He will likely have further tests to look for biomarkers, gene mutations, etc. This will help his oncologists choose the best treatment.
I would suggest researching oncologists and only choosing ones at highly regarded cancer centers. MSKCC, Cornell, NYU are all great options. This is not an instance when you want to see a local, private practice doctor.
I'm so sorry. Hang in there.
