1 hour glucose test- what should i expect
My next appointment is the 1 hour GD appointment... what happens, what should i expect? I was already handed the nasty looking orange drink, I was told to put it in the fridge, drink it in 3-5 minutes flat (i cant even do that with water, let alone a nasty drink- so not happy about this) and then to come to the office. So what do they do when you show up? If they take blood, how much do they take? Can you eat after the appointment? Any other information?

I drank mine at the office. Make sure to note what time you finish drinking, because they will draw blood exactly 1 hour after. It was just a vial, from what I remember. You can go on your merry way and eat after. I didn't have to fast before mine, but I know some doctors like you to.

You should really try to drink it as fast as you can- they draw your blood exactly an hour after you finish it. It's cool they let you take it home, I had to be at the doc office the whole time. You can't drink or eat anything after you drink the orange thing (it tastes like flat orange soda), butyou can eat afterwards. I can't remember how much blood they took- I don't think that much. Good luck!!

The drink really isnt bad at all. Like a pp said, it taste like flat orange soda. I had to fast before mine and had to drink at the office. They took just one vial before I drank it and then another an hour after. Not bad at all.

I agree with everyone else. It wasn't that nasty or bad at all. Use a straw and just slurp it down and write down what time you finished. Pee before you drink it and then not until after they take your blood. I had mine and got to the office 30 mins layer then they drew my blood 30 mins after that. I actually had the red one and it reminded me of Kool Aid.

Re: 1 hour glucose test- what should i expect
I brought mine home and it was great. I had the fruit punch flavor and it just tasted like a really sweet cheap fruit punch - "little HUGS" (they used to come in plastic barrels when I was a kid).
My doctor said I could eat or drink beforehand like normal. I had to note the time I started drinking and finished drinking. I drank it about 30 min before my appointment (dr is only 5 min away). When I got there I told them I was there for my glucose test and they asked for my times. They brought me in pretty quickly and did the routine stuff (weight, hb, etc.) At the 1hour mark they drew my blood (don't remember how much). We went to lunch after. It wasn't bad at all!
Good luck.

Re: 1 hour glucose test- what should i expect
I had the orange and it really wasn't bad. And the bottle is small so you'll have no prob. I chugged like half of it when they handed it to me and then felt gross so I had to slow it down I would say that I felt a bit "off" about 20 mins or so after drinking it and started to get nervous but then it wore off. By the time they drew blood, I felt totally fine. And I passed with a 102 I believe (needs to be under 130). They took a lot of blood from me (like 3 viles or so) but I'm not sure if that's the norm or if I had additional testing done.
Just make sure you dont have any sugar before the test!!! That additional sugar could put you over and then you're stuck doing the 3 hr
