1 More Question, maybe some of you can help
well of course i cant sleep so i decided to come on here to write what is bugging me right now..
after our sadness yesterday, and trying to understand what happened,
my sister came over to visit, she also had a miscarraige at 16W.. since then, she was considered high risk. the docs told her that she has what is called a incompetent cervix (there is a technical name for it, i just dont remember) anyways, it means that she cant hold the baby, there is a procedure that required stitches down there to hold the baby.. well they did this procedure for a precaution and it worked. she had 2 children after that..
i know its so early for me to be talking about this, but it eases my mind knowing that if i can have the same procedure that maybe ill be ok the next time i get PG. i do feel in my heart i had the same thing as my sister. we shared our stories of the miscarraige , and it was exact!! we both went to see the doc that day and we were both sent home thinking everything was fine.
so back to the question, has anyone have gotten this procedure, or know anyone that did?? i guess its for high risk patients.
so sorry for the long post, i thank you all again for all your support and prayers!!!

Re: 1 More Question, maybe some of you can help
I know that the majority of second trimester losses are due to an incompetent cervix. My neighbor lost her baby at 5 months and when she got pregnant again had the cerclage done. She successfully carried her next child to term. I just wanted to tell you again how very sorry I am for your loss.

Deanna - so sorry for your loss. My friend had the same thing happen at 4 months pregnant. For her second pg she had a cerclage (a stitch basically to keep her cervix closed until the baby was full term). She now has a healthy 5 month old. Again, terribly sorry for your loss.

I remember one of my ex coworkers telling me about this procedure that was done to one of her relatives. Her relative was able to have 1 or 2 babies with this procedure.
Again, I am sorry for your loss.

A family friend had this procedure done in her second trimester. She did have to go on bedrest around 30 weeks but she went on to deliver a healthy boy.

Re: 1 More Question, maybe some of you can help
Believe it or not, it is very common. I have heard of several with this issue and they have had children successfully. The good news is that they have come such a long way that with careful monitoring and being aware of things such as this, many women can have babies even when there are issues. I had a friend who had a rare cervix condition (don't remember exactly what it was), but she just was on strict orders and had her baby fine. There's so much they can do now, it's amazing.
So sorry you have to go through this. I had a m/c last year, and although I was not as far along as you, I do know how devastating it is to lose such a big part of you. Just remember that the positive thing is that you CAN get pregnant and you WILL again! Now that this happened, they will have to just be on top of it next time.
Best of luck to you

Re: 1 More Question, maybe some of you can help
My friend had this happen in her first pregnancy. I'm not sure what month it was, but they caught it, stitched her up, and she had to remain on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy, but she had a healthy baby. She had a second baby shortly after, and I don't know for sure whether she got stitched as a precaution, but I know she did not have to stay on bed rest for the second pregnancy. She had a healthy baby 3 weeks early with that pregnancy.

I'm sorry this happend
The procedure is called a cerclauge (I know thats not how you spell it). I know quite a few women who have had it done. My SIL had it with my niece, a close friend of mine had it with her twins. I'm pretty sure your going to be on bedrest with it.

Re: 1 More Question, maybe some of you can help
My co-worker had this done and now has a happy healthy one year old. Try to find a high risk specialist before you get pregnant to get thoroughly checked out and have a plan on what to do when.

Re: 1 More Question, maybe some of you can help
I also have a coworker who told me about this. Her sister lost a baby at 20 weeks. She then went on to have two babies with this procedure of sewing her cervix.
You should talk to your OB and tell them about your sister's condition.

dh's cousin's sife had this during her pregnancy, she had to have the stiches/sewing done to her cervix too. now the have a healthy 2 yr old, so everything turned out fine for them, no other problems during her pregnancy.
