1 year old and hitting?
DD started hitting, i have no idea where she learnt it cuz i have never hit her and i cant think of where she might have seen it. Yesterday we were at a bbq and she hit another little girl, then started pulling her hair I yelled at her and she just sat there and laughed at me! The mother of the other child was cool about it, she said her older brother hits her all the time so shes use to it but i dont want my DD to think its ok. Any advice on how to deal with this in a way that DD will take it seriously and not laugh at me?

Re: 1 year old and hitting?
I don't think hitting is something that they learn from seeing it, I know that alot of kids around that age start hitting.
What I do with Jack is take his hands, hold them firmly, and say "No hitting" -- sometimes it works, other times I get smacked in the face again. If he continues to hit me he goes into a timeout (which your DD is probably too young for still)
Just keep repeating - in a stern voice "No hitting" and she'll catch on!

Re: 1 year old and hitting?
OMG - I'm going through this with my almost 16 month old - She started hitting me last weekend and now it seems like her favorite thing to do when she's angry. I tell her "no hitting" with a stern voice and then she hits herself!
tonight I tried a timeout for the first time, I put her in a boring room with no toys for 1 minute. I stood with her, but didn't pay attention to her. She cried the entire time. I don't know if she got that is was b/c she hit though.
Do a search on the board, I just found some older posts on the same topic.
as upsetting as it is, its a relief to know I'm not alone in this.
