10 days after hurricane Wilma, and I still have no electricity
Maybe some of you remember I live in Miami ( I haven't really posted much on lifamilies ) Well, after the hurricane it has just been hell; we were out of work last week, and I still have no power; but what is even worst is that my whole complex got electricity back last thursday but my building! I know FPL is working on it but it is very depressing and it's getting very expensive for us since we have to eat out. Everything around us has electricity, and we have been taking really cold showers in the morning.... As of now, the only thing that FPL says is we can get power back on or before november 8th Just wanted to vent

Buy a Generator. FEMA will send you a check to reimburse you or direct deposit it within 2 weeks. Also you can buy a window AC unit.
After being out for over 2 weeks and being pregnant we got the generator and ran it thru our hotwater/electric and that gave me everything in my 2000+sft home back but my washing machine, dryer and central air. After Dennis we were out for about 3 weeks so I bought a window unit so the baby and I would have AC. Ivan wasn't too bad because it hit in Sept but Dennis was in July so that sucked!
With a Generator you can use your stove and fridge also do they not have MRE's by you. I sware they saved my pregnancy:)
It ***** and I'm sorry. But definetly buy a generator you will get reimbursed and will have it for next time.

Thank you for the advice! I don't know if I should get a generator, DH and me rent and is a really small apartment; but I am definetly going to ask if is possible. Well, Thank God the weather has been super nice and not hot at all, so we are not missing the AC; we are sleeping with the windows wide open and it's good. We also had it bad with Katrina, we did not have power for a couple of days but it was almost a 100 degrees outside; that was bad.

If your going to stay in Florida go out if you can find one and pick one up. All else fails you will have it for the next one and can start using it from day one before your loose everything in your fridge. FEMA also will pay for food loose coverage I believe up to 500 bucks. Our homeowners did so FEMA denied that for us and all our other damage.
Call FEMA and if you get someone nice they will help you especially if you have children (I think you do but I'm not sure)
We never did for Ivan and totally regretted it. Also when you do have a house they will pay for a chainsaw if you have down trees.
IMO FEMA ***** but having a generator for free was very nice and comforting. Also they paid for my fuel.
