10 years since Columbine High School Shooting

It is 10 years since the Columbine shooting. DH and I were talking about the things that have changed in America since then. More School safety as well as Airport and National security.

On a personal level we were discussing all the things in our own lives that have happen in 10 years.

I remember the aftermath - my HS made newsweek (not a good thing) with the # of bomb threats that occurred in the weeks afterwards.

And watching those images on tv - horrific!

I can't believe it either...was in my grad school class when we heard the news.

I can't believe it's been 10 years already, it was so tragic.

I was a freshman in college, I remember sitting in my Criminal Justice class talking about it.

On the Today show (i think?) they had one of the survivors- he was expected not to walk again- and it took him years, but he is able to walk again- he now works for the Dana & Christopher Reeve foundation

What a sad day that was I remember coming home & seeing the footage on tv. Horrible.

I remeber this like it was yesterday. I was a junior in HS at the time. I was so struck by this incident I couldn't turn off the TV.

I friended someone who went to the school through AOL after the incident and we talked alot about what happened at the time. I know it was one of those incidents that affected me even though it happened miles away. Something like that could happen in any school, i was afraid it would happen in mine with how the dynamics of social groups were.

I am glad to see and hear the stories of the survivors though.

Some really good things I heard about it yesterday was:

Oprah pulled her show about the 2 killers that was to air yesterday, because she wanted to support the schools celebration of LIFE yesterday.

There are 6 Teachers that are teaching at Columbine now who were STUDENTS during the incident. They say they feel connected to the school and there is no where else they would want to be.

1 student who was paralyzed and expected to never walk again- IS walking and almost completely recovered from his injuries. He is engaged to be married.
