Would you go?
My due date was yesterday and I have a Christening in NJ today (a little over an hour away assuming no traffic.) I really want to go, but I'm paranoid about going into labor and getting stuck in traffic coming back.
Should I just go?

Re: Would you go?
Labor could take hours. If you want to chance it sure, if it's important to you otherwise stay home and wait... and wait...

Re: Would you go?
there's no way i would go. with my luck, i'd go into labor while stuck on the BQE or NJ Turnpike or something. Just hang out close to home!

Re: Would you go?
IT's more important to my DH. It's a very close friend of his. He wants to "not" go for the right reasons. He says we are almost an hour away if we are home, so what's the difference.
Really its just the traffic - there's no traffic from my house, but going over the Tappen Zee bridge the Sunday after the most travelled holiday scares me a little.

I would go (says the one who's labor started 8 days past my EDD and lasted 45 hours)

Re: Would you go?
If you're anxious about the Tappan Zee (that bridge seems like it's always a mess) you can always figure out how to come back via the Newburgh-Beacon bridge- it's out of the way, of course, but not that much, and if the TZ is that bad it might actually be faster than sitting in traffic. The NB bridge puts you on 84 in Dutchess and you'd pick it up off 87 on the other side, I think.

Re: Would you go?
Personally, I wouldnt go, but I'm a nervous wreck.... I'm sure there are many women in your position who would definitely go...
But what if you had the baby yesterday? You wouldnt have gone anyway, right?
I don't know - thats a tough one - wish I could be more help....

Re: Would you go?
Labor will take hours - I think you would be fine. But son't do anything you won't feel comfortable with or if you are going to be worrying the whole time don't go.

I would not go either for these very reasons. This IS a valid reason to not go. Especially seeing your other post about possibly having your water break. What if you go into labor and it's NOT a long, slow process but you suddenly pop [this is how i had my first] and it's only a few hours? Stuck on a bridge for 45min-hour could mean having the baby in the car or needing and ambulance and a different hospital you are not familiar with!

I agree. If your water has indeed started to break your contractions can come fast and painful. I'd probably stay close to home.

Re: Would you go?
I went and I'm back. Still feeling good, but I'm wet again. I have an appt tomorrow at 2:30 so I'll make sure I mention it to the doctor.
Thanks for all your advice
