11-14 week NT test
Is anyone getting this done? I did it with my son but this time my insurance is not covering it. I know the AFP that is covered runs the same tests. Should I even call my insurance carrier and fight to get it covered. DH says back in the day they didn't have any of these so don't worry about it. What would you do? Help!! I am so confused on what I should do, stress out calling them and fight to get it covered or just do the AFP?
Thanks

Re: 11-14 week NT test
Ultrascreen NT test...checks for downs syndrome and other markers. I would personally do it, to me it's an important test. But it's a personal decision.
AFPs only a blood test, that often can be wrong, whereas NT test actually measures the neck folds and nasal bone, etc of the fetus so they are two very different tests. I feel physical markers are sometimes more valuable than a blood test. JMO

I would be sure to have it done, and I would fight with your ins company also. It's a sono and blood screening for Down's.

Re: 11-14 week NT test
Glad they are covering it for you! The way my doc describes it, it gives a few more points of accuracy when combined with the afp/quad screen. It is optional but was important to me for peace of mind.

Re: 11-14 week NT test
I had every test possible done when I was pg with DS my insurance company covered everything. But I have noticed since I moved to NC they do things different and my insurance has changed. And of course when I go to discuss this with DH I get back in the day they didn't have any of these test, it's a way for the dr's to make more money.. He has no clue.... I guess he is a bit more relaxed with this pg then our 1st. I am just going to have to stay on top of the insurance company this time.
I want to thank all of you for your support.
