Re: 12/17
Well if it's on Tik Tok it must be true....
Seriously though - if someone was going to do violence they wouldn't be announcing it ahead of time.
Just like if someone wants to blow up a building they aren't going to call in a bomb threat.
All nonsense.

It's scary though as some kids follow these TikTok announcement/schedules. The principal was saying the bathrooms at the middle school got destroyed earlier this year (she says usually there is damage later in the year) and realized it was because of a TikTok challenge.

My college roomates were just talking about this on our group chat. They all live in different states so it's definitely going around.

So eventually kids will just say something “bad” is happening every day and they won’t ever have to go to school again???

Yes Again. If someone wants to do harm they won't announce it so the police and school is on high alert Tik tok is the bane of society too

Re: 12/17
The superintendent here just emailed and said they are aware of this situation but thankfully at this time there are no credible threats of violence in our district. They will however have a police presence in both of the schools tomorrow to be on the safe side.

Same.
I just dropped off my son at MS and traffic was lighter than usual (HS and MS start around the same time and everyone gets driven to HS).
I feel today is prob the safest day to send them as everyone is on high alert.

Exactly…like Nell said above. If someone is planning a big violent event, they just do it. They don’t alert the media.
Bank robbers don’t notify all banks of a big robbery ring going down.
Some idiot kid in Nebraska probably had a calculus test today they didn’t study for.

Re: 12/17
Some kid started this stupid prank to get a day off. I wouldn't be surprised if some idiot somewhere in the country tries to live up to the challenge seeing as how tiktok is gospel these days don't let common sense stop you from eating tide pods or a bowl of cinnamon. Good thing the schools seem to be on alert.

True - today is the last day of school in many states before winter break as well.
Our schools have police presence today and teachers are on alert. So far nothing has seemed amiss.

Re: 12/17
There were people saying they are keeping their kids home today because of this.. so I raised the question- well what if today is a decoy to throw every body off and "they" really plan to do something on Monday? Or Tuesday? Or next month? When nobody is paying attention , nobody is keeping kids home, schools aren't on high alert, police aren't keeping a closer eye on schools?
Do you plan to keep your kids home indefinitely?
I got crickets.
I don't' think people really think logically sometimes. It's crazy how fear is so easy to spread.

Once again the person who started this has WON. They have created fear through everyone AND the MEDIA enhanced it.

This is the U.S. Every single day schools are open is a potential threat for schools.

Yes, unfortunately it's true.
But we had a lot of people keeping their kids home, and a lot of people upset the district didn't send an email (but there are police present at all schools and teachers and staff are aware so it's being taken care of). The only districts I've heard that have gone remote have had direct threats made on social media specific to that district.

I sent my kids to school. The “threat” was not specific to any particular area or school. I am bothered as to why TikTok would permit these types of trends on TikTok without trying to take them down or ban the posters.

So my DD has a tiktok account. I monitor everything she posts- of course. Her account has gotten permanently banned- with no recourse or appeal allowed- 4 times now. (she will make a new account under another user name when it happens) I watch her account like a hawk and she posts NOTHING that violates their terms. Literally nothing. So how is it that accounts like the ones in question don't get banned for talking about violence and making threats... but my DD doing stupid dances in her bedroom or posting videos of our cat gets banned multiple times? None of it makes sense.

She is probably getting banned because of her age not the content. If they are under age, it has to be a shared account with the parent. There has to be some content with the child and parent. I know you said your daughter looks younger than her age, so that may also it.
As for the banning of this content, I think because TikTok hasnt been under file like FB they havent devoted that much time and budget on censoring the content.

Interesting. So do they actually have someone that goes and looks at their videos and says- hmm this kid looks to be under 13? I find that strange considering violent content and threats don't seem to be watched or taken action against.

My daughter got banned a few times as well. For absolutely no reason. I monitor all her social media very closely and all she really does are those stupid dances. No rhyme or reason to it.
For this stupid hoax. This is not the first time that something like this went around Tik Tok. The interesting part, to me anyway, is that I can never find the original threat. All it is is a bunch of kids saying they heard of it and saying their scared and posting it all around. I really think it's a bunch of kids wanting to get out of school and looking to get "likes" on their posts. Parents need to step up and start monitoring their children's social media.
