Just trying to gauge how much we watch.

Often the tv is on, but she's playing or reading books instead.

Re: 12-18 mths old...how much tv & what shows?

Within the last few weeks DH and I have decided we are cutting out TV almost completely.

Little by little we just began to realize that Jake was watching WAY too much TV altogether. It started out as only a little and kept increasing.

We know that he watches alot of TV at my Dad's and there's not much I can do about that at the moment (although that will be changing VERY soon Chat Icon ) but we CAN do something about how much TV he watches when he is with us.

So as of right now the policy is zero TV. That's right, I have become a TV nazi Chat Icon (never thought I'd be!). We'll see how it goes and eventually maybe work in 1/2 hr TV MAX later on. I have decided to severly restrict TV until he turns 3 then we'll take it from there.

I know it will be hard to stick to this but I am really determined to. We've done zero TV weekends before but I personally feel it was getting way out of hand for us.

Alot of the time it was like you said - the TV was just on in the background and he wasn't even paying attention, he was playing with something else. Now we don't even have it on for background noise.

Nate very rarely sits and watches TV. The only thing he really watches is Jack's Big Music Show, Seasame Street and Blue's Clues. Most of the time that's not even every day. When DH and I are home the TV is on sometimes, but he's usually playing with his toys.

Almost none. She just doesn't like TV, cartoons, or movies. She used to watch Teletubbies but she doesn't care about that at all anymore. Sometimes she'll take a little interest in Sesame Street but usually only the short time that Elmo is on.
So for the most part after I watch the news in the morning the TV is off the rest of the day. We're not home that much though for too much TV.
My mom says she likes to watch Dragontales when she babysits. Chat Icon I still don't believe she watches the entire show.

The tv is on in the background throughout the day- but I can honestly say- he never sits down to watch it (unless I lay down with him on the couch to take a nap)

PBS kids, discovery kids, noggin

Julia doesn't watch a lot of TV she would rather us read to her, which is fine with me. If the TV is on its usually Noggin!

This is the same deal in our house. I think I need to see the adults more for my sanity, lol. The only time he stops what he is doing is when Moose and Zee come on on Noggin. If the show to slow he looses interest and goes after the dog.

Same here with TV sometimes as background noise, but I too am trying to cut it down because I feel like it is on too much.

She is usually playing with her toys while it is on and only sits and really watches when she is really tired, like when she first wakes up and we are making her breakfast.

she likes to watch
Dora
The upside down show
Big comfy couch recently
she used to love Blues Clues but has been starting to lose interest

Jacob watches in the morning while I am getting ready and when I am getting dinner ready int he afternoon... I think most of it is for background while he is playing but I do think that children can learn from watching tv..

He watches ( not all at the same time or back to back):
Play with me Sesame
Dora
Diego
Backyardigans
MickeyMouse Clubhouse
Little Einsteins

I have all of these on DVR too..

His favorite movie right now is Madagascar

DD watches for about 1-2 hours in the morning. She watches any of the following:
Blue's Clues
Backyardigans
Dora Diego
Spongebob (which is her fave by the way!)

I usually have it on in the background like the other moms said, but she's mostly playing with her toys, we're out most of the afternoon anyway.
She watches a bit of Teletubbies in the am while I take a shower, maybe a bit of the Big Comfy Couch later on.
The only two things I can say that REALLY catch her attention are on Noggin when Moose & Zee come on & the "Upside Down Show".

He only watches these 2 shows:

Jacks big music show
Play with me sesame

He is never sitting just playing with it on in the background. He loves music and he loves to dance.

We actually usually have our ipod playing - he loves country!

I have always put the TV on for him since he was about 2 months old. Never cared for it. Still doesnt. I always had Noggin on, and he never paid any attention to it. Last week I bought a Barney DVD and as soon as it went on, he was totally mesmerized by that big purple freak Chat Icon and has sat and watched the singing and dancing for almost 30 min straight. So now, I put the DVD on in the morning. (its 50 min long) then we are off in our travels during the day, and again at around dinner time i play it again. Thats about it. Then its bedtime. Chat Icon
