12 Week Nuchal Test
How many of you decided to have this done, or just part of the test. I am so confused what to do....

Re: 12 Week Nuchal Test
I didn't do either..... my decision was based on the fact that there are high chances of false positives that would lead to unecessary worrying during the pregnancy, I would never have an amnio so I would just worry the rest of the pregnancy and I would never terminate the pregnancy. I felt that the level II ultrasound would give us a good idea of how the baby was developing and any MAJOR abnormalities and that was all I needed.
Its a very personal decision, there is no right or wrong choice. Do your research and sit down with your DH and decide what is right for YOU!

You have summed up my thought exactly.

Re: 12 Week Nuchal Test
we're doing both.
the u/s gave us another chance to see the baby and the bloodwork was very basic.
for me - it's a two part test - one at 12 weeks and then more blood at the 16 week appointment.

Exact same here. So far it's given me peace of mind. Regardless of the outcome of the test, I would like to be as prepared as possible for the arrival of , and I feel like knowing if there is an issue will allow me to research resources and additional doctors as necessary.
I wouldn't subject to a harmful test, but since neither of these have any chance of harming the fetus, there was no question in my mind as to whether I would get the test.

I skipped this test. Mostly for the reasons stated above.

Re: 12 Week Nuchal Test
I just did part one today, the blood test, and i am doing the sono next tuesday. I am not going an amnio or a CVS test. It gives me a piece of mind. Plus i get to see the baby again lol.

Re: 12 Week Nuchal Test
I didn' t want one for many of the reasons above, but DH wanted one. I decided to get one for DH, and it would get me another chance to see the baby on the ultra sound. Well was I surprised to find out that I had a 1:23 chance of having a baby with downs. By that time I had to know. I knew I would abort, but I couldn't go through the pregnancy not knowing. So we did the Amino and baby does not have Downs. So knowing what I know now, I totally wished I never took the test. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Re: 12 Week Nuchal Test
I had a pregnancy where the baby had a cystic hygroma in the past and I lost the baby at 15 weeks so with my son and with this pregnancy I will be having that test done. It's something that I need to know because it was a terrible experience.
When they do the nucal test the measure to see if there are any growths on the neck. My baby had an obvious growth and knowing what I know now - I might have made different decisions. But that is only because of my past experience.
Also, wanted to add that the growth was found at a 10 week sono.
