12 week sono and they saw a penis
I can't even believe it.
Did anyone ever see a penis and end up being wrong?

wow, i had my 12 week yesterday and they said they wouldn't even hazard a guess. i read that at 12 weeks they have a 50% chance of being wrong...the penis wouldn't be that obvious yet.

i want to say that i've read that this early on that could also be the female genetalia...as it's not quite 'inside' yet...

Im not very good at explaining this but Im going to try...
Overall, at 12 weeks, the external genitalia of male and femal fetuses are essentially the same. To determine whether or not the baby is a boy or a girl has to do with the angle of the "penis" or "clitoris". A penis has a greater angle than a clitoris.
From what I understand, it is more common to wrongly predict a girl at this stage than a boy.
I found out that I was having a boy at my ultrascreen as well. The perinatalogist told me not to go painting anything blue...but then he threw in that he'd yet to be wrong as well..

They saw a penis at my 12 week sono and they were wrong - although the radiologist said she was 95% sure it was a boy. Since my 20 week anatomy scan, it has been confirmed 4 times that it's a girl!
The previous poster is right about the parts looking similar at 12 weeks. Check out this site:

Yes, they were wrong for me...I wouldn't go painting the room blue yet, DH was ready to and was shocked at our 20 week and then later on when they confirmed that in fact it was a girl!!!

At my 12 week sono i was told its a boy, for sure then oh wait im 100% sure its a girl. Well that turned out to be wrong Level II confirmed im having 100% boy

Yup, I would not go by a 12 W ultrasound. The male and female genitalia start out the same almost looking like a penis, it doesn't start to differentiate into male (turns into a full penis) or female (turns into a clitoris) parts until about 14 weeks.
I wouldn't stary buying all blue quite yet!!

At my 13 week sono, the tech wouldn't even discuss gender, she said it was much too early to tell.
At 20 weeks I definitely knew I was having a girl!
