DH goes into surgery this morning...UPDATE #3 - WE'RE HOME!!!
I'd appreciate any prayers or good thoughts you can throw this way (direct them towards NJ please!)
He's having the growth removed from his carotid artery.
It's a tricky surgery. He'll be under for 4+ hours and then have to stay overnight.
And please pray that I don't strangle my ILs while in the waiting room. (Just a little humor to lighten the situation.)

QUICK UPDATE:
Hi everyone,
The surgery itself was a little more complicated than the surgeons originally thought it would be. Instead of taking 3-5 hours it took them almost 9 hours to fully remove the tumor.
He spent the night in ICU last night and was still there when I left to come home and change - I wasn't expecting things to go like this, so I spent 24 hours in the same clothes and I slept about 45 minutes total in the last 48 hours.
DH is doing well under the circumstances. A little swollen and groggy still, but it seems the worst is over. They are going to transfer him to a regular (non-ICU) room this afternoon and keep him for a least one more night for observation.
I’ll update again when he’s home. Thanks for all the good thoughts, hugs and prayers. They are appreciated.
UPDATE #2
Thanks again everyone, as usual your support overwhelms me.
DH is in a regular room now.
He's having trouble swallowing, which is a risk we knew about. Right now they don't know if it's because of the swelling (his tongue is still at least 2x its normal size), if it's a temporary nerve issue or something more serious.
He has to have something called a Swallow Test (insert dirty joke here) to see what's going on and if the swallowing is dangerous to him (meaning it's going into the lungs for some reason).
But the kicker is that the team that does this test won't be able to do it until Monday. And since he's not taking in any fluids or food on his own, he has to stay in the hospital until then. 
He's been a little freaked and having panic attacks (which is usually my domain). They are giving him something for them now (starts with an "A" but I can't remember what it is.) He hates hospitals and he's uncomfortable and upset that this isn't over yet.
I've been at the hospital for almost 50 hours, just taking another quick trip home to shower and change, etc. Then I'll be back at the hospital - I've got sleeping on a chair while 7 months pregnant down to a science now.
Ah well, things could be much worse, right?

We're finally home!!!
The speech pathologist was able to see us yesterday morning and determine that the issues he's still having are related to the swelling he's still experiencing in his tongue and throat and NOT nerve damage!! 
She conducted her "test" - what a joke - she gave him water, applesauce and a jelly sandwich and put her finger on his neck while he swallowed them and said "you're fine". Yeah, that was the high tech test we had to wait 2 days for!!!  (No offense to speech pathologists out there - I know you do lots of important work. I was just expecting more.)
We still had to wait for the all clear from the doctor which we FINALLY got around 6:30 last night. You've never seen people pack up so quickly as we did to get the hell out of there.
So after 5 long days he's finally home.
Still on a soft food diet, which much to his disappointment, does not allow a steak from Ruth's Chris, but he's allowed to progress the rest of this week as he feels more comfortable.
It was so nice to sleep in a bed last night and wake up without it having to be because the man next to us wet his bed again.
