13-month old boy dies after swallowing prescription pills from bottle he was given as a rattle
A 13-month-old Bronx boy died Friday morning, apparently after he swallowed medicine from a prescription pill bottle given to him to use as a rattle, police sources said.
Both parents have been charged with reckless endangerment.
The boy, unconscious and unresponsive, was rushed to Lincoln Hospital about 8 a.m. after police were called to the family's Southern Blvd. apartment in Longwood.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital, sources said.
It appears the boy opened his father's medicine bottle and swallowed the pills inside.
He had been given the bottle to use as a rattle.
When the mother checked on the child Friday morning, she realized he was unconscious and 911 was called.
