14 mo old not eating - at my wit's end...HELP!
My DD is 14 mos old and for a good month now has given me such a hard time at dinner time. Just has no interest in eating dinner no matter what I try to give her. She'll say NO at the food coming at her - I put food on her tray she can feed herself and it goes untouched. I've tried all different foods...stuff she can chew, softer things in case it was her teeth bothering her. I've even gone back to baby food - the Stage 3 stuff thinking if it's teething pain this will be easier for her. Meal time has just become absolute toture for her and for me. With dinner I've come to the point where I try and try and I figure she won't starve and will let me know if she's hungry. Last night was the first time she literally did not eat 1 morsel of food. I never worried so much b/c she always did great at breakfast and lunch. This morning however she barely touched her french toast and I got her to eat some watermelon. If she could live on watermelon she would - after all else fails I give her that b/c I know she'll eat it.
After a month of this and no new teeth anywhere in site - I don't know if it really is a teething issue. Is this just a phase? If so please tell me she'll grow out of it.
How do I handle it? I'm tired of fighting her to eat. Do I just let it go and figure she'll let me know if she's hungry? I feel she's a little young to be such a picky eater at 14 mos but she's my 1st so what do I know?
I added some formula to her milk bottle before bed last night b/c I felt like I had to get something in her. I should add she has 3 bottles of milk a day and drinks those no problem.
Any tips or just tell me I'm not alone in this please....
TIA!
ETA: I try distracting her with toys and stuff and that is no help anymore - worked at 1st but not anymore. Should I try feeding her in front of the TV? I am also 5 weeks prego but entering that very tired phase and I'm at my wit's end with this meal time thing...

that is the case with my DD but it's because she is getting her molars. My DD also loves loves watermelon!! and she will also drink her milk with no problem.
This week she has been better...she's been eating pancakes in the morning and a little bit of pasta for lunch and then pizza for dinner (that's all she eats).
Hang in there..it's probably her mouth bothering her.

Could be molars! My ds has been a fuss bucket, and not eating well for almost a month. Finally I see his molars coming through. I have given ds motrin and then he eats like a beast bc he is hungry but teeth are hurting!

thanks...I think it's got to be her teeth too. People tell me the gums bother them more at night that's why I figured dinner time was our biggest problem. She may be getting her molars too - I just wonder how long do the teeth take to come in? Her gums have looked inflamed for months now - she only has 4 teeth on top and the 2 bottom front teeth. It's been months since a new tooth...I just wish they'd come in already!

The doctor said it could take a while for them to come in. I bet she will get them really soon.
Good Luck!
And Congrats!!!

thanks - I usually give her motrin after meal time thinking "ok that didn't go well...her teeth must hurt" and then i give it to her. I will def. try that - give her motrin before dinner tonight and see if that may help. Great idea - thanks!

Honestly, if she's not hungry, then don't fight it...they'll eat when they're hungry. Plus, dinner is usually the smallest meal for them, and they go through spurts, I'm sure she'll back to eating again

I had/have the same problem with my DD I have to limit the amount of liquid she takes in. She will not eat dinner if she has something to drink 2 hours or less before dinner.

she does have a 3pm 8oz bottle of milk...then dinner time is 5 for her. Maybe I'll make that milk bottle smaller today or offer it a little earlier to see if that helps. Thanks!
