Imus Comments on Rutgers/TN Women's Basketball Game
Imus refers to the players on the Rutgers team as "ho's" and "nappy-heads"...
Protests are being organized to try to get him off the air. What do you think should be done? Does it matter that he is an "equal opportunity basher"?
Where did he cross the line - at "ho" or "nappy-head"?

Re: Imus Comments on Rutgers/TN Women's Basketball Game
I think he should be off the air because he's not very talented.....but that has little to do with his comments.
As for those comments, they were out of line and really offensive. Did he apologize? He should.
Just one more reason to stay away from him....

I believe he did apologize, I could be wrong, though. I don't really know what the right thing to do would be. I mean, my first instinct is to fire him.

Re: Imus Comments on Rutgers/TN Women's Basketball Game
A lot of people seem to be writing it off like "Oh, that's just Imus!"
I just wonder what would have happened if Katie Couric or Rosie O'Donnell or someone had said the same things.

He did apologize.
I'm hearing that too - the write off as him just being him. He is pretty insignificant, imo, but saying "that's just him" is excusing him calling a bunch of women, "ho's". I understand how "nappy-head" may be viewed in the A-A community but that aside, calling these women a "ho" is so way out of line.
He crossed a line and it should be addressed. That said, not sure what his "fine" should be.

not a fan of imus
but let me pose this question
if you fire imus
how do you justify stern making all sorts of offensive comments on free radio for years
not counting the satellite stint

and not that O and A is a great source- but I believe the comment Imus made is from a Spike Lee movie- or at least that is what Opie or Anthony said this morning
I have meet Imus- he isn't a bad guy- he does ALOT of charity work- and my Uncle's client Rob Bartlet is on his show alot-

I'm all for free speech. I think his apology is enough, but I still wonder if it were a more "legitimate" news source that said it there would have been a much bigger issue.
Is he being fined?

no
the problem is that imus hasn't figured out what type of show he wants
controversial like stern or a serious issues show

I think it's because he's not actually alive anymore and there's a person behind him pulling strings to make his mouth move.
He drives me insane. I can't listen to 30 seconds of his show without bleeding from the ears.

Re: Imus Comments on Rutgers/TN Women's Basketball Game
Just another question for you....
How are the comments/stunts that Stern and Imus make/pull different from what Oppie and Anthony did by airing that couple having sex in church? Oppie and Anthony got fired, but Stern and Imus get away with their vulgarity.
I know that all incidences are soooo different, but in the grand scheme of things, not really...
PS.... I answered that he should just apologize.

the O&A church thing offended me but, if they're gonna let stern and imus get away with stuff, you have to be fair

We now live in a society where no one accepts an apology! Someone always wants more..get fired, get sued get hung...something. That is my problem with what Rev Al is doing to him. Sure I don't like Imus personally so I don't lsiten. I do not, however, go around soap-boxing that he should be fired & have his livelihood taken away. Did he say something stupid? Yes. Was it illegal? No. So why is he not entitled to his opinion? I just don't get it. You are right, an apology does not mean anything these days

I actually never heard it... I was never a big Oppie and Anthony fan.
So objectively speaking, you agree that they shouldn't have been fired, right?

The radio station was going to lose a TON of sponsors if O&A were not fired, and although I don't agree with their being fired, the only difference is they encouraged people to perform and illegal act. I don't think that any of Imus' advertisers are threatening to pull their contracts because of this statement.
The unfortunate thing about any media is the listeners/readers only matter in relation to the advertisers...KWIM?
