175-Professional Development Hours...
If you are required to complete the 175-Professional Development Hours, I have a few questions:
1. Does your district supply you with ALL the hours?
2. If you have to complete the hours on your own, what, if any, restrictions do you have? (i.e. if you take classes, can they be online?, if you take grad classes, do all 45-hours count?, etc.)
3. What does NOT apply according to your district?
Thanks!! Our district is very stringent on what they allow and we are up for contract negotiations and this is on the table... we (the other Union Reps and I) are trying to find out what other districts are allowing so we can ask for comparable action from the district.

Don't know if this helps you but here is what is on the uft website :

I am one of the first people who did not fall under the permanent certification. Lucky me.

Me too!!! The only thing holding me back from being grandfathered in under the old certification was 1 (easy!) test that they got rid of! no test=new certification for me!
I used most of my classes that I took towards my MA 90. I was able to get these hours in when the 5 year time frame just started so I'm good until 2014. Then, I believe I can use Superintendent's conference days and PD.

Re: 175-Professional Development Hours...
I'm in Catholic school & we're responsible for calculating & inputting & finding classes to make the required time. Our hours are cut by 10% however.
I include all professional days; all my extra grad classes (online or in person); any workshops I attend & our fall/spring faculty meetings when we have "workshops on specific areas" by speakers that come in.
