18 months....1 nap or 2?

DS always took 2 naps...but lately he fights his morning nap and I wouldnt even think about putting him in but by 10 am he is rubbing his eyes, laying down on the floor acting like he wants to take one. So I will lay him down and he screams. I am ok with 1 nap I just feel bad b/c he seems to get so tired.

Re: 18 months....1 nap or 2?

DS has been taking 1 nap since around 14 months, but it was kind-of forced upon him. He re-started at daycare at that time. The room he went into had a specific schedule and there was only one nap. It took him about a month to adjust to it. Now at 17-1/2 months he takes one nap. He goes down between 11:30/12 and sleeps about 2 to 2-1/2hours. (When he took two naps, they were each about an hour.)

Do you give him lunch before or after his nap?

Yesterday we went pumpkin picking and DS fell asleep in the car on the way home. I was able to get him into his bed without waking him up. He woke up around 2 and was so hungry he was inconsolable. With his old schedule...he would nap until 12 or so and than eat lunch when he wakes up.

DS has also been taking one nap since about 14 months. This was also forced because of daycare and his moving into the next room. But it actually worked out much better. He was less cranky and went down for a nap easier. At daycare (and we try to stick to this as best we can too) he has lunch at 11:30 and then goes down for a nap at 12. He will sleep 2-3.5 hours! He goes to bed at 8:30-8:45. It actually took less time to get him on that schedule than I thought it would--only about 2 weeks.

Maybe try putting him down a little sooner. He could be getting overtired and then fighting the nap. DS did this at one point--he always took his nap at 11 and fought and fought. But then I put him down earlier, and it got much easier to get him to nap.

I would say he might not need the morning nap anymore at his age, but if he seems sleepy and cranky, he probably still needs it.

They take them outside to play, then they give them lunch and then it's nap time. I feel like the routine tires them out and fills them up so that they're ready to sleep.

When he's home with me, I generally try to feed him before and after. Depending on his appetite, somethings the first one is a snack and the second is lunch or vise versa.

Our schedule is very similar- and we try to do the same thing on weekend. The only difference I see is that my DS goes to bed at 8pm- but he may also be waking earlier than yours.

I think we dropped the 2nd nap around 15 months. hes 22 months now and wakes at about 8am. he naps for 2 hours (to the minute on his own sometimes!) around 1230-130. After lunch we sit on the couch and relax and he usually passes out there then i take him to his bed.

we went to one nap at about 15 months but it is so nice that i know what time she will be sleeping (after lunch) and for how long 1 1/2-2 hours. Before it was very varied.
