1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
I'm planning my daughter's 1st bday party, & have a list of 93! Is that insane? I think I might just invite family & see about friends later. Really, she's 1...she isn't going to care if my friends are there.
Anyone else feel like baby bday parties have gotten out of hand?
Also, the photo invites...adorable, but I think I might just get the write-on's. Thoughts?
Thx!

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
yes!!
while its hard, you have to put the breaks on eventually. I did for my DS's 2nd birthday. 1st I invited a lot, had about 60. Cut it down to about 35 for 2nd then for 3rd I had a kids party (for 11 kids) and a family one (immediate only).
I don't find the need to invite our friends to birthday beyond age 1.
1st is still pretty big of a deal though so I would still invite a batch.
Invites....go with vistaprint.com. Cheapest by far around

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
We only invited friends and family who had children 5 years or younger. We had it Gymboree.
It was the only way we could keep the guest list small.
None of our friends or family members who weren't invited cared - they understood.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
We have just over 100 on the list! But DH & I have big families (aunts, uncles, cousins galore!) We had a small Christening party with only immediate family, so we are going all out for the 1st Bday in June and inviting family & friends. But we are having it @ our house/yard and expect around 70 ppl to come. I agree with the invites...I might do photo if I can get a good deal...otherwise I'll do plain printed ones bc I'm not writing out that many invites.
For future birthdays we will not be having parties like this bc they def have gotten out of hand!
Im also not hiring any child entertainment bc DD is only going to be 1 & I feel it will be a waste to her! There will prob be about 10 kids ranging in age from 1-12...and I plan to get some balls & sidewalk chalk and other things for them to play with, but no hired entertainment.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
This is why I didn't have a party for DS - we had a large Christening and I didn't want to go through it again.
We just had a couple of smaller celebrations with immediate family and cake.

OMG, yes, I think that is nuts!!
We will probably just have a small party - immediate family and a few friends, along with DD's Gymboree friends and a few other kiddies.
I can't imagiine having 90+ people for a first birthday, but I don't have a huge family and DH's family does not live near us.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
We are having the same problem! My DH's family is huge and we have a large group of close friends, most of whom have young babies that are my DS's friends. We live in the city, so we can't have it in our place, trying to figure out how to make the list smaller.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
Um yes- I had only a few more than that at my WEDDING. I say cut that list WAY down!!!
We had immediate family- as in 8 people- in our yard for some food and the pool. No favors, no invites. No theme. No entertainment.
DD was happy as a clam.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
I have the same issue! We made a list the other day and we even cut the list a little bit I still have 83 people on it! We didnt do a big Christening (we did just family), so I am ok with doing a bigger first birthday.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
we did NOT have a BIG christening, and both my kids are summer babies, so for their first birthdays we went all out...
just about 100 showed up for my DDs birthday and for DS (i didn't know as many moms when he was born) about 80 showed up.
we had family, friends, and their friends.. it sounds ridiculous that at 1 they would have friends, but AJ met his friends when he was 4.5 months old and my DD had her friends when they were all in utero.
i don't think its ridiculous at all...
they turn ONE only once...

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
I got thank you cards from here bc its easier but you can get bday cards if you really want the picture cards...

Look for coupon codes. I got mine for 1.49 last week for 20. I did two sets on two different emails.

Re: 1st Bday Party - Ridic Invite List
We had 115 come. The write-ons are very annoying. For his second I only sent out 27 and I was hating it- but they came from the place fee so I was so not buying invites
