1st bday party - suggestions for favors and cake(s)?
We are planning to have a small party at home for DS's first birthday. There will be lots of grown ups, a bunch of kids from age 2-7, and then about 4 babies around the age of 1.
First, DH said I can be totally in charge of cake(s) - he doesn't care what i do! Any suggestions? I want somethign for grownups, but also something kids will like. I thought getting a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for all the kids, and whatever grownups like that.... and then some other bakery dessert stuff for teh adults - canolis (sp?) (i married an italian, but i'm scottish!) OR, is it better to get a cake that grownups would like and get cupckaes for the kids or something? I know I'm probably making this a lot more complicated than it is - I am just so excited to be celebrating his first bday!!!!!!!
Also, I want to do a nice little favor for all teh kids, but can't spend too much. Any suggestions? For parties we have been to, we've gotten books, rubber duckies, etc.
TIA!!!!!!

Re: 1st bday party - suggestions for favors and cake(s)?
We did a cake for the adults and cupcakes for the kids! We also had fruit, rice pudding, cookies, icecream!! I LOVE dessert so it was great to have a variety!
If you don't want to spend a lot on favors -go to the dollar tree! They have great stuff! I think the one year olds would love a big ball and the older ones you could put a few things in plastic party bags! hth:)

Re: 1st bday party - suggestions for favors and cake(s)?
Congratulations! I'll be having a similar party when it's DS's 1 year and I've already decided on cupcakes for the kiddies Kids just seem to like them better and it's less fiddling with plates/forks/etc (less cleanup!) For the grownups cannollis are GREAT and everyone likes those rainbow cookies if you want to mix things up a little..
Also for favors (cheap!) check out Oriental Trading

Re: 1st bday party - suggestions for favors and cake(s)?
for my DS' first b-day i did a cake for the adults and icecream cupcakes ( they have them at BJ's) and they are really really good and everyone loved them
for favors i gave candy and for the kids that couldnt eat the candy i gave the gerber graduate snacks - my DS' theme was sports so i bought little hackysacks (sp) baseball football, basketball & soccerball and i also got whistles and stuff like that and it wasnt expensive at all
