1st Birthday Parties

Did everyone do a theme ?

I don't see myself doing a kid's theme. I don't know if that's weird or not.

I plan on doing a backyard pool party in August.

She doesn't watch tv, so it's not like she's into anything particular.

I figured a regular party & a cake for her.

Re: 1st Birthday Parties

I am doing a theme b/c I feel like it will organize me better, but Luce doesn't watch tv either (except smallville and HGTV Chat Icon ) so I am doing it based on a book.

I've chosen Le Petit Prince. best part is, one of my closest friends was born in France (as was her mom) and I am going to ask one of them to do a reading, in French, for the kids at the party (many of whom, the older ones, take French in school)

for the time being, I am planning on having it at my house upstate...HOPEFULLY in the backyard since Octobers have been fairly mild.

havent sunk my teeth into this one yet though....we'll see how it evolves.

Re: 1st Birthday Parties

Only reason I'm doing a theme is b/c DH is a contractor so we thought it would be cute to do a "construction" theme. Just getting a lot of the colors.... orange, black, yellow

Just cute for decorations too, but we're hiring someone for entertainment that's singing and nothing to do with the theme.

I've seen a pink party for girls or blue for boys. Even the "1st b-day" party is a theme with "1" everywhere.

BTW... he does love Yo Gabba Gabba, but not doing that theme

We went to a first birthday party a couple of weeks ago that had an Elmo theme.

The birthday boy is a huge fan of Elmo.

Re: 1st Birthday Parties

I usually loathe anything cheesy and blatantly character driven - but since seeing my kid get SO completely excited over freakin' Elmo - I have caved.
Red, Yellow and Orange it is .......Elmo's face is everywhere ..........at least HE'LL love it Chat Icon

Re: 1st Birthday Parties

I am doing a sugar and spice theme for my twin girls. I did lollipop invitations (ordered from Etsy) and doing a lollipop and cinnamon stick centerpiece. I think for activites I am doing a decorate a cupcake and something else. All my decorations are pink and brown and so are their 1st birthday tutu's.

We did a Backyardigans theme for my DD's 1st birthday because she was absolutely obsessed with the cartoon and characters. It was her favorite! I don't think you need to do a theme though espeically if there is nothing your DC is into right now. You can find plenty of 1st birthday decorations and stuff online that isn't associated with any particular cartoon character.......just a general 1st bday theme. Chat Icon

Re: 1st Birthday Parties

We're having a backyard party with just family. I guess you can say it will be a sock monkey theme but because I'll work it into his outfit and maybe try to make a sock monkey cake and some decorations that I'll make. I'm thinking red, brown and baby blue balloons/plates. Other than that, just a bbq with some games for his cousins.
