1st birthday party issue - ILs dog
first let me start off by saying that i HATE my ILs dog. i am a big animal lover but this dog is the most annoying, smelly, badly behaved dog i've ever met. it's the ILs fault for letting her run the house and not disciplining her, ever.
DH is well aware of this. (i am pretty sure my ILs are too)
DS's birthday party is outside. there will be young kids there crawling around and food everywhere. she pees when she is excited, and doesn't know the meaning of "down" - she'll jump on anyone and everyone.
would it be totally unreasonable for me to have DH tell his parents that the dog can only be outside if she is on a (very short) leash? i don't even want her there but the party is at my ILs house so i don't really have a say.
i would prefer she be inside the whole entire time but i don't want to come off as a b!tch.

Nah i don't think that's unreasonable. Chances are if she's that bad, they should already know it and understand where you're coming from.
Plus what if there are kids that are afraid of dogs at the party??? I know my niece is deathly afraid, so maybe they should consider that factor too.

I would tell DH that you're concerned that some of the younger kids are going to be afraid of the dog. Tell him when you asked about having the party there, you didn't even think about the dog but that now you can see it's going to be a problem with the peeing, the kids crawling on the ground & the jumping up.
Then I would ask him to talk to his parents about keeping the dog inside.
I can tell you that the dog probably bothers you more than it would bother other party guests and if it does bother the guests, I have no doubt you'd going to put the dog in the house.

If you don't like and don't trust the dog, I'd keep it inside. You never know how a dog will react to people they don't know or how the children will behave towards the dog. Personally I think it is a huge liability. Abby likes dogs though.

Definately say something. There will be young children there and some may be afraid of the dog, or even allergic. I have the most gentle, sweetest well behaved dog and I would never let him out at a party unless it was my immediate family only.

I'd request the dog stay inside. That would give the dog free roam of the house, and not be restricted on a leash all day with everything going on.
