1st day weaning from BFing (update with day #2)
Well I made it to a year BFing!
But now its time to start weaning. Andrew's 1 yr check up isnt until November (no appts available earlier) so I am doing this on my own.
I weaned the "topping off" lunch BF session a while ago with no problems but this morning I didnt nurse in the morning when DS woke up and wow! He was mad! Very clingy and crying and I didnt know what to do so I gave him milk in a sippy cup and his fruit and cereal for breakfast.
But now I dont know if he gets another "breakfast" or a snack or what. And he is a cranky little guy today.
I plan on doing the night BFing for another 2 weeks and then break that one...
This is hard. Any advice?

Re: 1st day weaning from BFing
Just stick with the consistency of the feedings you want to skip. If he asks for it...say something like "not yet" (this is what I did) That way it becomes sort of a trigger word that he'll start to understand what you mean.
It's a slow and emotional process, but one you'll get through Take it from someone who EBF and DD was a BFing monster! at 15 months we've successfully weaned to 1st thing in the morning and bedtime.
Congrats on your BFing success!

Day 2 - I distracted him right away with the dog and his light switch! I fed him a banana and sugar free chocolate milk and he was fine!!! And my BBs are feeling ok too. (TMI - I know )

Re: 1st day weaning from BFing (update with day #2)
Distraction was key for me.
For morning feedings...I would throw him in stroller the second he woke and walk the streets with him, giving him breakfast while we were out.
I never sat...not once, he would see that as in invite.
At night, I did get my a$$ kicked.
I have the child who doesn't sleep and has been weaned since June, who just recently has stopped asking for boobs.
but we used this method to night wean...slow but worked if he is still getting up at night...
