1st soccer game of the season or birthday party?
DD was invited to a bday party for a girl in her class. They're not overly close, but friendly. She mentions her every once in a while.
She has her first soccer game the same day and time.
Which would you do?

When DS was 4, a little girl in his class had the same problem. The whole class went to her party and missed first day of soccer. Told the coaches ahead of time

1st soccer game of the season or birthday party?
In that scenario described,I would decline the party and take my DC to Soccer. But thats just my opinion and preference, I also dont go to parties my DC is invited to. Only been to 2 this year.lol

Ask your DD what she'd like to do. If it's a close friend then go to the party. If she really enjoys soccer and excited for the game and not too close to the classmate then go to the game. I usually try and go to the friend's birthday parties first. Good way to meet other parents in the class that will one day make play dates with and I like to see how my son is when he's with his friends from school. Although if something more important comes up or DS wants to go to one more than the other and it's an option than I'll follow what he wants.

My personal opinion is to go to the soccer game. I feel that it is important to teach my kids about committment. The have made a committment to play soccer and their teammates count on them.

If she's 7 or younger I would let her decide. After that, the sport takes preference because it becomes more competitive and she committed to the team.,

Close friend, miss the game. Just a classmate or someone that your DC isn't close with, go to the game.

What does your child want? How old? I agree if it is an older kid, not a best friend and a team she had to try out for, then go for soccer. If it is a young kid, fun soccer, I would let them choose as long as your DH isn't a coach.

Sounds about right. My DS has missed sports games for close friends bday, family parties, or family trips. But he isn't on any crazy competitive teams. As he gets older, if he's involved in competitive sports, the games will become more of a priority.

I TOTALLY agree!! Depends how old she is and what she wants to do. Once they hit travel age, it is harder to pull them out but under 9 I would let them go to the party.

Re: 1st soccer game of the season or birthday party?
We RSVPed "no" to a birthday party that was at the same time as my son's first soccer game in the first season he played. I felt it important that he become acclimated with the rest of the kids. The mom told some mutual friends that it was rude of me & now my son no longer gets invited to her son's parties. I felt terrible about it for a whole but now I realize it was a petty thing to get that annoyed about and she could have discussed it with me, not my friends.
