Terrace Diner has only been opened since May. I never even knew it existed until I saw this post.

Ugh, I was at the Diner 3 weeks ago. All my co-workers were raving about it. I was not the happiest to go there. Next time, I am going with instinct.

I went to that diner about 2 weeks ago, but my parents were just there this weekend. I think I remember reading that the violation was a missing sink--the same violation that shut the Magnolia Bakery.

There a few missing sinks at the diner!

Quoted from the news article --

The Terrace Diner was shut down last Thursday, according to De Leon, because the diner had no working sink in the front bar service area and no hand sink in the basement food preparation area.

Terrace Diner failed with 53 points, De Leon said. The diner has only been open since May 7.

"We have a food consultant, architect, engineers. Everyone was okay with the layout of the kitchen," said Terrace Diner's owner, Bayside resident Jim Papageorge. The inspector determined the kitchen's center line was so long that it required a second sink. Papageorge said it was not.

"But I know you're not supposed to argue with an inspector, so I said I would do it with the sink," he said. He had a sink installed by Friday and a reinspection was held Monday.

"They found five flies downstairs and now we're not able to be reopened," Papageorge said. "There's 25 of us over here and everybody's life now is upside down. Nobody can come to work, people will find new jobs. Everything is upside down."

De Leon said the restaurant failed its reinspection due to repeat violations, including dripping sinks, stagnant water and conditions conducive to flies.

"The restaurant will be reinspected when they contact the department again and pass inspection with no critical violations," she said.

Papageorge owned four donut shops and currently owns three restaurants in Manhattan. None of then have ever been closed.

"We have our kinks like every new place and we'll work everything out," he said.
