2 month shots... not a good day

So my ds had his shots today and it didn't go over very well. Chat Icon He's been sleeping most of the afternoon but then when he just got up, he screamed bloody murder for a while. Nothing i did would help soothe him. When i did finally calm him down, he'd start up again.

We gave him Tylenol, but what else did you mommies do? Did you just give tylenol every 4 hours? We took his temp and it was 99.4.

What am i in store for tonight? Chat Icon

Re: 2 month shots... not having a good time

aww, poor guy - Megan had the same experience with her first round of shots. We did give tylenal. The only thing that helped was stroking her forehead with a cool cloth very gently...

She was fine after the initial outburst- we just held her a stroked her forehead and then she was asleep through the night....

Its not easy to see them cry so much Chat Icon

Re: 2 month shots... not having a good time

99.4 really isn't a temp for a newborn (they say 100.4 is). But, the shots can def. make him a crankpot. The one time he reacted to shots he was pretty inconsolable. Honestly, I just cuddled him a lot - I may have even taken him into bed with me for the night. He was sad Chat Icon

Oh i know that isn't considered a temperature. I was just saying what it was because i knew that someone might ask if he had a fever. Chat Icon

It's just hard not being able to do anything. Chat Icon

So did your ds sleep at all that night? My husband is working a midnight shift tonight so i'm dreading how he'll be...

Hi Ali Chat Icon
Alexis got her 2month shots on Aug 18th and for about a week she really wasn't herself. She didn't want to eat that much and was cranky/fussy, which is not like her at all. She slept like she normally did, but when she was up she was quit different.
Just be prepared in case he acts differently. Chat Icon

She got 2 shots and one oral vaccine. I believe it was the oral that made her cranky. I hope it doesn't last a week for you!! Chat Icon

Yeah he got 2 shots (one in each leg), but one of the shots was a combination vaccine. Not a fan of those...

We didn't do the combo, but she did get both shots in one leg each. Poor babies Chat Icon
I think we did IPV, Hib and Rotovirus (oral). We're going back at 3 month, 4 month and so on. I just hope she doesn't become cranky again after the next round. It wasn't fun and I know DD doesn't usually act like that so it made me upset to see her act as a different baby.

He was up often - every couple hours (but he's doesn't get the award in sleeping to begin with)

Sorry your DH isn't around. One time DH got OT for a night shift after Ryan's shots and I was hoping and praying it wasn't a rough night - thankfully he only has had a problem one time.

Re: 2 month shots... not a good day

I hated the 2 month shots so much. It broke my heart and my DD was so cranky and sad after them. It gets better though, well actually not when they get the DTaP, that makes them cranky, but the others.
