2 part question
Hey.
1.Have any of you totally skipped giving cereal and went straight to fruits and veggies? If so what was your reason?
2. BF Moms - were you totally averse to putting formula in your baby's cereal if you could not produce enough breast milk?
I ask these questions because my cousin's baby just started solids. He is 4 1/2 months. They decided to bypass cereal and start on veggies. Their reason being because the mommy is producing just enough breastmilk to make her bottles for the day when she is away at work and would not be able to make enough milk to put in the cereal.

Re: 2 part question
I don't BF, but most of the time I mix the cereal with water anyways. I like giving him the cereal in addition to the fruits and veggies because I think it fills him up more.

Re: 2 part question
we skipped baby food altogether and went straight to soft table foods at 7 and 8 months old for our girls.
We skipped them because there is no reason for them. I believe in the baby led solids. The baby will start putting soft foods in their own mouth when they are ready, no reason to spoon food into their mouth.

Re: 2 part question
I would put formula in the cereal to fill them up more honestly. Sometimes I would use water only as well. It's easy and only a scoop. I used cereal as a base for the introduction of veggies and fruits. Everyone has their own way of parenting so......if that's what works for them then I guess that's what they feel is best.

Re: 2 part question
You certainly don't have to start with cereal, but it's good for babies to eat b/c of the iron. When I give DS cereal, I use BM, but he gets cereal with water at daycare.

Re: 2 part question
We happened to start with rice cereal, and then the others. But I don't know if they are really necessary. I know that we did it becasue DS loved his cereals - especially rice and oatmeal, and because it made me feel like he was getting lots of nutrients.
If I had pumped enough breastmilk then I mixed it with breastmilk. If not, I mixed it with formula. Now I mix it with water.

Re: 2 part question
We never mixed cereal with formula or BM, we mixed it with fruit from the very start, as per our pediatrician's recommendation.

Re: 2 part question
Thanks for the replies.
I know that you can use water in the cereal as well, however they do not want to give the baby water.
Everyone has their way I guess. I was just wondering how necessary cereal was if it could be skipped.

Re: 2 part question
We exclusively Breast Fed and never bothered with cereal, went straight to fruit and vegetables... We did in the beginning add my Breast Milk to the fruit and vegetables.
