2 year old freaks when I wash her hair??

My 2 year old DD freaks out when I rinse her hair out in the bath. It doesn't matter what I rinse with, a big cup, small cup, princess watering can, anything.....screams, grabs me and tries to climb out...any suggestions??

My older dd used to as well. I used to give her a hand towel and let her hold it over her face and that helped a ton. She is just 5 and really good with it finally, no need for the towel anymore. Dd#2 didnt have this issue. I totally soaked her from the beginning, poor baby but shes completely not bothered by it.

DD#1 does this too. At 3.5 she still freaks out sometimes when I try to wash her hair. We've tried every single cup, we've tried letting her do it, we've tried the washcloth over the eyes, we've tried having her take a shower. Sometimes she's great and sometimes she freaks. Hopefully she'll grow out of it eventually.

I just posted the same thing recently. DS would do the same thing. I'd be soaked! I had to make sure I was not in my pjs or I'd go to bed drenched! And it was just heartbreaking, the torture.

The last two bath times have been okay though. I showed him (have before in the past and it did not work but this time did) how to hold the wash cloth over his eyes. And keep telling him to look up so his head tilts back. And we use the "sprinkle cup" which is a little whale cup with holes that came with his baby tub. It takes more pours to rinse but he seems to be okay with it.

I've also eased up on my being anal about no splashing. Within reason, I let him play a little more splashy so occassionally he's getting water on his face and in his eyes and he's learning that it's okay. And yes, I still get wet but it's a fun wet!

Re: 2 year old freaks when I wash her hair??

I was going to come on here and ask this today. DD has always been fine with me washing her hair and getting water on her face...now she FREAKS out. I actually dread washing the shampoo out and save it for the last possible moment. I have tried different bottles, that BBB bucket thing, a visor, the washcloth over her face...nothing works. I used to be able to say, "Look up to the sky" and she would tilt her head back and we'd be golden. Now she FREAKS. It breaks my heart bc her eyes get all red rimmed and she looks at me like I'm the enemy. Chat Icon
