20% service fee added to bill, plus tip line
went to a fancy bar out of town this weekend. Got the bill, saw "20% service fee" added. then tax. then another line for Tip. Then another line for total.
Would you add in a tip on top of the already added 20% fee?

Some places add an automatic tip. I'd have asked them to clarify what that charge was

I would not tip on top of that. If that's not the tip then I would not go there again.

I wouldn't tip on top of that, but the line is usually automatically there anyway. I went to a spa in Vegas over the weekend and the gratuity was added on, then another line for additional tip. I think this confuses many people, but I don't tip on top of the tip, but yet always feel uncomfortable leaving it blank

That happens a lot at resorts/hotels I notice.
I also noticed in Miami almost all the restaurants do that.
You definitely have to look out for that or you end up double tipping

thank you for all your responses!!
I did NOT tip on top of the tip. I wrote in that line "Included".
I thought it was pretty shifty to have that line there. And I already had a few, so it was lucky I caught it. I'm sure many don't.

just as a fyi i'd keep a keen eye on all restaurant/bar bills, as this may be happening and you may not notice if not paying close attention to the charges!

More and more places are adding a fee to a purchase... A lot of the local places we go to (IE Bagel store, cafe, etc) add a fee, whether you pay in cash or credit. My DH and I went out for lunch at a local place and between the tip and service fee we paid an extra 30% on top of our food... not to mention the increase we are paying for the food itself. It's getting out of hand.
