my JANUARY birth story (LONG)!
Okay, Ladies, here it goes...my Birth Story.
My due date was 2/3 but my little Matthew was born on 1/30.... I ended up going to the hospital on Monday night to be induced with Cervidil after my doctor called saying my latest test results showed mild pre-eclampsia. Better to induce then wait for my condition to worsen.
After ~8-9 hours of Cervidil, they started me on Pitocin on Tuesday morning around 9am. At my 1st internal, I was still 1cm. No change all night. After the Pitocin was hanging for a few hours, I got to 2cm. I opted for the epidural early (yes, I'm a weany, but the Pit is not exactly comfortable!). By 6pm, my internal showed NO change. UGH.
My doctor broke my water and increased the Pit. By 8pm I had dilated to 5cm! Things were looking up.
The only problem - my epidural was "patchy" so I would feel breakthru pain and need constant bolus meds from anethesia (who, by the way, became my favorite person by the end of the night). By midnight, the breakthru pain was so intense I couldn't handle it. The doctor checked me and there was no change since 8pm (even with the transducer verifying very effective contractions). Baby just didn't want to descend. He was stuck at 0-station....and face UP. Hence, the BACK labor. YUCK.
Needless to say, by 2am I was in the OR for a c/section. I'll spare the gorey details involving how I could FEEL the cutting in the areas where the epidural didn't work........
I swear that the adrenaline rush of meeting my baby in minutes got me thru the pain. I refused to let the doctors put me under general anethesia -- no way was I going to miss this!!! Once baby Matthew was born, I felt a lot more and was put under sweet-air. Recovery has been rough....
BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT.
I have NEVER been more in love with anyone in my entire life! I'm so smitten. I can't stop staring at him. It's beyond amazing. Every day is a gift.
Hang in there, Ladies. It's worth anything you have to go thru to meet your perfect
