The birth of Caden James
My birth story starts at 32 weeks when I went to the doctor due some increased discharge (TMI ). It was at this appointment that I found out that I was about 50% effaced. Due to my history of early labor and delivery it wasnt all that unexpected. What WAS totally unexpected was my doctor telling me that they were no longer able to deliver babies and they would have to sign me out to another physician!!!!!
After making several phone calls on my behalf, my doctor was unable to find a physician that would agree to see me...apparantly due to the 50% effaced thing. So I left the office in tears..32 weeks pregnant..a history of preterm delivery..WITH NO DOCTOR!!!
I came home and immediately posted on LIF..Honestly within the hour I had a name and phone # of an amazing doctor (Thank you so much Darlene!!!) who agreed to see me...immediately in fact...I had my first appointment later on that afternoon.
The rest of my pregnancy continued on without much excitement. I was 1 cm at 34 weeks...4cm at 36 weeks..no contractions felt fine...We talked about inducing early b/c of my history of going really quickly and b/c we had other kids at home to care for etc...
At my 37 week appointment my doctor did an internal and found me to be 5+ cm dialated..no regular contractions or anything. We agreed that sending me home at this stage was not a wise thing to do b/c he felt that when I actually went into labor I wouldnt make it to the hospital...so on to the hospital I went..
At 1pm on Monday August 20th my doctor broke my water and started pitocin....by 2pm I had regular contractions going...by 4:15pm I was 8cm and ready for an epidural!!!! As I sat up to get the epi DS heartrate dropped and they instructed me to lay back down...I had gone to 10cm and it was time to push!!!! NO EPI FOR ME...I pushed for about 1/2 hour from 4:30 til 5:02 when Caden James entered the world...7lbs 11oz, 20 inches.
For me and my DH it was the most amazing delivery. We got to hold him immediately and count his fingers and toes...they honestly just cleaned him up a bit and left us to bond with this beautiful little guy..The pictures from his birth still bring tears to my eyes...
My mom brought the older girls up to see the baby at about 6:30. I was already up and about back and forth to the nursery window showing off my baby boy...
The staff at St Catherines was wonderful as was my doctor...It was a long road but Im glad everything wound up the way that it did.
