Update on Gerty - Updated SATURDAY, MARCH 22 - 9 PM
9pm Saturday:
She has spiked a fever and is being induced now. She's asleep.
SATURDAY UPDATE:
Gerty's water broke last night.
They do not want any visitors or calls right now.
They are at 22 weeks, 3 days at this point.
Just please pray for Baby Rogan....
OK - I went to see her in the hospital as soon as her DH called us. He was so distraught, I was sure she had lost the baby. 
They were out Sat. night and when she went to the bathroom she felt wetness. She checked (all us IF girls are used to poking around up there) and could feel a bubble. They went immediately to the hospital.
No cramping, no pain, no contractions so I don't think technically it is pre-term labor.
Anyway turns out the amniotic sac has come through her cervix. She is 6 cm dilated. They are keeping her in bed, inverted, to see if by gravity or sheer luck and prayer the situation doesn't get worse. She can feel the baby kicking, and his heartbeat and stats are fine.
If her water breaks, she will go into labor and have to deliver the baby. She is 21 weeks along and the Dr. says chances of survival are basically nil.
Best case scenario, and the one we are all praying for - she remains inverted for the next 3 weeks until the baby is 24 weeks old, and can survive outside the womb. Of course there would be complications from such an early birth but there is hope.
So, that is what we are holding on to - hope and faith and the sheer will for Gerty, Dan and Rogan to make it through this. They have come so far, and been through so much....my heart is literally in pieces.
Please remember them in your prayers and your thoughts. Gerty beieves greatly in the power of prayer - lets show her she's right....
UPDATE Monday 11am:
Just spoke to her - she is still the same. Baby is fine, strong heartbeat. Apparently the first 72 hours are the most critical. Then, if they can hang on for 8 more days, there is a possibility of saving the baby. Of course the longer they can hang on, the better. She is getting a new bed, supposed to be more comfortable as her lower back is causing her a lot of pain.
I told her everyone was praying for her and she appreciates it. I hope to see her today.
UPDATE Monday PM:
I went to see her this afternoon - my mom sat in the car with DD while I went in. (Mom is 80 and I can't really leave her to babysit).
Anyway - they gave her a new bed - YAY! She is a bit more comfortable now. She is leaking a tiny bit of amniotic fluid but the Dr. says that is fine. Her white cell blood count is down so it looks like no infection going on, which is very important.
She is pretty optimistic and is hoping to stay the way she is - inverted - as long as possible so as not to break her water and go into labor. The Neonatologist told them that basically if the baby were born now they wouldn't have any hope - they'd have a few hours with him at best. So, the goal is to keep that sac closed and keep that baby inside.
I told her about all the posts and FMs and she thanks everyone from the bottom of her heart. My eyes were welling up when I told her how caring and kind people are, and what nice FMs they are sending for her.
They are no where near from out of the woods yet -- so far all those prayers are helping, looks like we will need to keep them coming for a while. Thanks so much.
WEDNESDAY AM:
We spoke on the yesterday and she is still hanging in there. DH went to see them on his way home from work and brought some magazines - Car & Driver, MAD --- which she loved!
Anyway if she makes it to 24 (I think) weeks they can give her steroids to help the baby's lungs develop more quickly. And her culture test came back fine so no infection for sure.
Her DH is sleeping at the hospital - he goes home to shower and take care of their pets during the day shen she has visitors. He doesn't want her to be alone at all. He's afraid something may happen and he won't be there for her.
So all in all, things are status quo. I'll see her tonight and update after that.
THURSDAY UPDATE:
Went to see Gerty around 8pm - Donna (dm24angel) was visiting and seemed to have been keeping Gerty giggling -- great!!
She will have an ultrasound today. The neonatologist doesn't think she is dilated much, but it is hard to get an acurate reading because of the sack being in the way. If this is true, her chances are better of holding onto the baby.
She was 22 weeks yesterday so every day longer Rogan stays put is closer to their goal of a healthy baby.
She's on colace (for those who were wondering and I know a few were) and they are keeping her on antibiotics. They will start giving her steroids for the baby when he becomes viable.
Gerty is in good spirits, considering she is inverted. I stayed so her DH could go home and sleep in his own bed last night. Her sister came at 11pm to stay the night with her.
Gerty's eyes teared up when I told her about everyones' FM and posts, and about the avatar crusade. She says it's been working so far, thank you all so much. 
Oh and PS nothing she needs or wants right now. Maybe as time goes on she'll think of something but for now she is well-stocked with mags, books, Easter baskets, candy, cinnamon buns, flowers..you name it, she's got it.
THURS PM: Still haven't heard about the ultrasound. At 7pm I spoke with DH and she hadn't had it yet - he said he would call or text me when they knew anything.
So all is status quo, which is good. 
UPDATE FRIDAY AM: The ultrasound went well-- plenty of fluid and the baby is growing!! 
Baby Rogan weight 1 lb. 4 oz which is big for 22 weeks!
Oh and we just spoke - she is only about 3cm dilated, which is GREAT news. Although the sack hasn't retracted. But, it may at some point. Basically all good news!

Kara thank you for keeping us updated. I will continue to pray for Gerty and her family as she serves as such a source of inspiration for so many people including myself.

I can't believe that God would be so cruel as to do this to them, so I truly believe that things will be ok. They HAVE to be!!!

Kara I've prayed off and on throughout the day for Gerty and her family. I am so relieved to hear that as of late, baby Rogan is safe and healthy.
I'm praying with all my might that by some miracle they can get that baby to cook much, MUCH longer.
Please let her know that she is in my prayers and we're sending much love and good vibes her way......
