Hailey Madison Born 1.27.08

I'm sorry this is so long...

We got to the hospital on Saturday 1/26/08 @ 7:30pm. I was a scheduled induction due to high blood pressure. By 8pm we were settled into our L&D suite. They started the IV's and inserted the Cervadil into my cervix by 8:30pm. The Cervadil was supposed to soften my cervix and possibly even dilate me. The nurse gave me an Ambien and told me to get some rest. I dont really remember the time we got up because I was already in so much pain. I was having horrible contractions (mostly back labor). I know that at 8:30am they took out the Cervadil and checked my cervix's progress. I was only dilated 1cm. One freaking cm. But I was having contractions as if I were in active labor. And they couldnt give me an epidural just yet. So I had to suffer through the most horrific pain I had ever experienced in my life. I was starting to freak out because I seriously thought I was going to end up having a c-section. And seriously at one point I was telling them to give me a c-section. Thats how bad the pain was. Not only was I having contractions but every time the nurse would check my cervix it would cause even more pain because my cervix was so high. Finally my OBGYN came in and said to give me the epidural. In entered the most wonderful man in the world. Haha. My very own personal drug dealer. He said it was going to be the best backstabbing I had ever received. Boy was he right. I didnt see the needle nor did I want to. But it did hurt. The thought of something going into my spine gives me the chills still. But within minutes of him inserting the drugs into my back, my pain was gone. I was still have contractions (per the monitor) but I wasnt feeling a thing. The nurse came in a few minutes later and broke my water. Which I didnt feel either. All I felt was a warm rush of water hitting my thighs. Basically I was numb from the boobs down. Then she inserted a catheter into my bladder. Which was fine with me. As long I dont feel a thing. I took a nap and when I woke up I was 4cm. And from 4cm I went to 7cm. And from 7cm to 9cm. And by 7pm I was 10 cm. I pushed for about an hour before Hailey was actually born. But it was the worse hour of my life. I felt like I had to take a poop the entire time. But that wasnt the case. The baby was just putting pressure on my butt because she was coming down. I tried to push and take a poop but nothing came out. The nurse kept telling me to push when I felt a contraction coming on. The babies head was coming down. She said if I gave her 5 good pushes she would call my OBGYN so that we could deliver the baby. I wanted to tell her "ok, I'll give you 5 when you give me 5". Some of my pushes were good, some I just couldnt do. I was exhausted. I was seriously throwing in the towel. My face was bright red. Finally I gave her enough good pushes and out of no where my doctor popped in. I was so happy to see her. But the pushing wasnt over just yet. I had to push the kid all the way out. They couldnt use the jaws of life to pry her out I thought? I kept pushing. I kept grunting. I kept telling them how much it hurt. I kept crying. I kept telling my mom not to touch me. Haha. I dont think I was screaming but who knows. I didnt care at that point. Then half way through my pushes the doctor says "wow this baby has a lot of hair...everyone come look!". Um, lady, my vagina isnt on display. Please remove the child. My mom said she was pulling Hailey's hair out of my vagina so that everyone could see it. The doc even asked me if I wanted to touch the top of Hailey's head that was poking out. No thanks. Like I said, just get her out. Her head gave us a little bit of a hard time but once they got that part out it was smooth sailing. They twisted and turned her. Asked me for one GIANT push. So I listened, and Hailey Madison was born. Yeah she was yucky and covered in crap. But I didnt care. MY daughter was finally here. They had Noah cut the umbilical cord and then they placed her on my stomach for a few moments. I was exhausted and crying hysterically. They took her away to weigh and measure her. Then they gave her back to me. All wrapped up like a little burrito. I think the "after birth" was grosser then the actual birth. And when I say after birth I mean the delivery of the placenta and all the extra fluids (aka blood). My mom went and got my dad who was waiting in the hallway. He was crying (of course) because he heard the baby cry. I told her to bring him into the room so that he could meet his granddaughter. We were all on cloud 9. Noah was glowing. He had tears in his eyes when she was born. And he jumped right into the role of father. He was holding her and talking to her. It was so cute. I kept kissing her forehead & cheeks. She was so precious. We spent 2 nights at the hospital and we got released on Tuesday. The 1st two nights @ the hospital were rough cause she slept all day and was up all night. But now she's in a routine of sleeping at night and being up most of the day. They thought she had a problem with her kidneys because she had a small "pit" or "tag" on her right earlobe. But they did some tests (blood & sonogram) and discovered she was perfectly healthy. I was happy to hear that. It was nice to get home on Tuesday. My mom watched the baby as me & Noah took power naps. She even stayed a few nights with us. My feet are still swollen so the doc wants me to take it easy. I am breast feeding and right now my breast are super engorged. I mean hard as a rock and hot. I am seeing a lactation specialist. Hopefully they can help me out. The pain is once again, horrible. But I'm loving being a mom. I wouldnt have changed anything about my delivery. I have a newfound respect for my mom. She went through alot to have me. Just like I went through alot to have Hailey.

Haily Madison was born on 1.27.08 @ 8:11 pm. She weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and was 20 inches long.
