Don't you love the polite way we call them Palmetto Bugs down here? Much better than "Hey, check out the gigantic American cockroach in my bedroom!"
I chased this one with a can of hairspray. Slows 'em down so I can scoop and flush!

It's an American cockroach. This one was about 2 1/2 inches long. Not to be confused with German cockroaches that infest houses. These guys live outside and wander inside.

Shudder. I had 2 of those things in my house last week. So gross. I immediately called my pest control people and they told me to pour bleach down the drains and the plug them. Ugh, I hope not to see another one any time soon.

I had one of those in my old apartment many years ago. Only difference was the one I had had wings and was able to fly around. Ugh.
Took me a good two hours to finally catch it. These things never die no matter how hard you whack them.

My grandmother used to have those things in her house in Florida. She would clean her tables in the florida room with ammonia and the things would be belly up the next morning.
