Rylan 3/28/08
Here's my birth story. I only really remember the beginning as far as times and stuff like that.
I was originally due on 3/24 but that date came and went. I had another OB/sono appointment on 3/26 but was still only 1cm dilated. The doctor didn't want me to go more than a week past my due date so an induction was scheduled for 3/30 at 6:00pm. I was really upset but still had hope since it was still 4 days away.
I woke up the next morning around 6:00am with what I thought were BH. They weren't that painful...just slight cramping. I went about my day shopping and trying to get the last minute things done before Sunday. I started timing them around 5:00pm...I was starting to think they were a little more than BH. Around 10pm they were starting to become a little painful...not bad but I would have to stop what I was doing and sit still during them. I called the Dr at around 11:30 and told the service that I thought I was in labor and wanted to go to the hospital. She told me to wake for his call back. Around 10-15 minutes later I still didn't receive a call so we left for St. Charles. He wound up calling while we were on our way.
By the time I got to the hospital and checked in it was 12:25 and the contractions were 2 minutes apart and getting worse. I was only 1-2cm at this point which was a little disappointing. The nurse came in saying your meds will be here soon...I asked what meds and she said Demarol(sp?). I refused it...my little sis had it and she hardly remembers the birth.
By 2-3am I was BEGGING for an epi. They refused to give me one until I was 4cm dilated. I though I was going to die. I always said I wasn't scared of the contractions...just the actual delivery. HAHA...those words will never come out of my mouth again. I have never in my life felt pain like that before. My boyfriend was begging me to take the Demarol but I still refused it.
I tried going for a walk but I made it half way down the hall when I had another horrible contraction and almost peed all over the floor. Needless to say I ran back to the room and didn't try that again.
I was still begging for the epi...I kinda lost it a little. I was telling my boyfriend that I wanted to fire the nurse...as my nurse...not from the hospital. I swore she was telling me no just to make me suffer. They were still telling me I wasn't far enough along and I had to wait for my Dr to show up.
At some point one of the anastegialogists(sp?)heard me crying/screaming/complaining...whatever it was I was doing at the time and found a Dr who would ok me for the epi. She was the nicest women ever...she said she felt so bad for me.
I received the epi at 5:20am...almost 24 hours after feeling the first contraction. I was scared sh*t to get it but the IV hurt more...I couldn't believe it. It was nothing and started working immediately.
They broke my water at 8:00am and found some miconium.
Around 10:45am the baby's heart rate kept going down so they put on the internal monitors. I was also 8cm at this point so I thought it was almost time.
At 12:00pm I started to feel the contractions on my right side...bad...really bad. They gave me more of the epi. After that I became REALLY numb...to numb in my opinion.
At 1:00pm I was still only 8cm so they started me on Pitocin. They said they would keep increasing it as time went on. They basically told me that if by 3:00pm my contractions didn't get stronger and hit 10cm I would then have a c section. I was so upset. 3:00 came and they said my contractions were so strong they would give me longer.
This is when I really done know the order and times of anything else because I was so tired. At this point I was up for 33 hours.
At some point they had reached 10cm and they had me start pushing. I was doing really good and the head was right there so they ran to get the Dr.. Well she was in a c section so they had me stop pushing until she was done. I was like They changed something on the bed so I was basically in sitting position...like on a chair.
I was like that for about an hour before she came in. During all of that the epi ran out on my right side again. They wanted to give me more but I didn't want it because of how numb I was the second time....I was scared I wouldn't be able to push. They wound up giving me the little push button thing for the epi.
I never realized how hard it would be to push and hold your breath for the ten seconds. I had my mom on one side...my boyfriend on the other and the BEST nurse in the world helping me along.
At 9:17pm Rylan was born. It was the most amazing experience of my life. I can't even explain the feeling I had when they laid him on my chest
After 9 long months I finally met my baby boy. It was love at first site!!!!!!!!!!!
