2nd Trimester Bleeding? - UPDATE!!!
OK, I'm sure it's nothing, and if someone else was saying it I'm sure I'd say, "Don't worry..." but somehow when it's happening to you... So with DS I had lots of spotting in the beginning, luckily everything was fine, all turned out well. This time around I had no spotting in the beginning, but suddenly since I crossed into my 2nd trimester I've been having some. It's never a lot, but it's bright red or pink. It never lasts long. I'm crampy now but I tend to be crampy a lot, so I don't know if it's really related. Has anyone else experienced this later spotting?
******* UPDATE *******
After everyone's great advice I decided to call and the doctor had me go to the ER to be safe. 6 hours later...baby is fine! They checked my cervix and that was fine too. It was left off as everything is fine right now, but my doctor wants me to come get checked again in 2-3 days and be on bedrest until then!! I'm focusing on the happy part - baby's ok! But since I'm only 4 months I'm definitely hoping to get a few more paychecks in before comes... Thanks for all the support!

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
My doctor told me that any bleeding/spotting during pregnancy is NOT normal and to call him right away if I see anything.
I did early on, and panicked and cried, so I know how you feel. It ended up being due to low progesterone, so he put me on progesterone supplements for awhile.
I would definitely call your doc - and if you get the answering service, have him call you back. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but let your doctor tell you that.
Good luck!

This is not true. I had spotting early on and my Doctor as well as several other people told me this is very normal and common. I am not in my 2nd trimester yet but I would call your doctor just to make sure and see what they say. But stay calm and don't google. I did this a lot and freaked myself out and turns out everything is perfect. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I guess our doctors have different theories, but it doesn't mean what my doc said "isn't true". He said that bleeding is not normal and to call him. I'm not saying to panic, just to call the doc and let him tell her not to worry. He may want her to come in sooner than her next appointment. I'd rather err on the side of caution in a situation like this.

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
My doctor was on both sides of the fence on this one. THey said that if I had any bleeding or spotting to call. Then when I did they said oh its perfectly normal.
I would err on the side of caution and call. Especially since it is bright red and/or pink and associated with some cramping. Even when they were telling me it was normal they said if it was in conjunction with cramping I should always call.
Keep us updated!!

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
I've always been told the rule of thumb is if the spotting/bleeding is bright red -- you should contact your doctor. Pink or brown spotting/bleeding is considered normal but red is not good.
It could be a number of things, but I'd call the doctor and ask them what it could be and if you need to go in and be checked out.

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
Don't stress. I've heard that spotting during pregnancy is normal and common. My doctor even told me to expect it after I had my pap smear. Hope everything turned out ok!

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
I had the same thing last weekend...it turned out that my placenta seperated from my uterus just a little and so I've been on modified bed rest since then.
Even if it turns out to be nothing call your doctor to make sure. You're better to have you mind put at rest that its nothing than sit and worry.

Did you have a lot of spotting? OK, I need to call... I was putting it off because their weekend hours were over and if they were concerned I'd have to go to the hospital. The spotting had stopped soon after I posted yesterday. But this morning there was a little again.

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
I would call your OB.
I had bright red bleeding at 19w and it turned out I had a borderline placenta previa. It had resolved itself by my ultrascreen at 20w, but there's no way I wouldn't have called ...

i have to agree that LIGHT bleeding or spotting, ESP. in the first tri - is completely normal. i have also heard that from several doctors, both OBs and REs. i was actually told at my first sono at 6w specifically not to freak out if i had spotting since it was very common.
in the second tri i would def call my doctor. i wouldnt be completely worried if it was light spotting, but i would def call.

I had spotting early on also. The only time when it's cause for concern is when it's very heavy, bright red and accompanied by cramping. Many woman spot during the first trimester. I'm not sure about the second, but I'm sure everything is ok. I would call your doc for peace of mind!

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
Bleeding is a common during pregnancy and every pregnancy is different. The thing is that bleeding/ spotting should not be ignored and chalked up to it being just common. Sometimes it is nothing and other times its a sign that something is happening and needs to be checked.
So don't freak out, but you def need to call the doctor when you see blood.

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
All 3 doctor's I went to during this pregnancy said bleeding can be normal. But it could also be a sign of something so if it happens I should contact them.
I did have red, very red full on bleeding at 12 weeks. It was the very end of my 1st tri and the very beginnings of the 2nd tri.
I went to the dr... dr was able to scoop a ton of blood out so that I wouldn't bleed anymore, and from then on I spotted for about 6 days. He told me I would spot after that.
The cause of the bleeding was unknown. He then told me it must have had something to do with doing strenuous activity that day. I went Christmas shopping earlier in the day and was waiting on LONG lines with heavy items in my arms and all. So from then on, no exercise, no strenuous activity, no sex, etc for me.
I would def call the dr and even try to make an emergency appt. this will put your mind at ease and find the root of a problem should that be the case.
I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant and so far so good.

Re: 2nd Trimester Bleeding?
My doc always says any bleeding or water leakage - you call right away. Its prob nothing but I'd err on the side of caution and call the doc even if it means a trip to the hospital.
